Default Just got a 95 ex coupe with motor work done. Have some questions.

Well I originally signed up on here when I had an old da gsr, but got rid of it because of the miles that it had on it. I just got a hold of a very clean eg coupe with a freshly rebuilt z6 that has some work done to it. It has Eagle Rods, Y.C.P. Pistons, King main bearings, and other internal stuff. Engine was rebuilt under 2,000 miles ago, 3" exhaust, Competition Stg. 5 clutch, 500ish miles on it. The head has a crower turbo cam and all misc parts. One problem, he didn't sleeve it. What kinda psi can I run on a holset hx35? I am going to have a local guy here on the south side on Indy tune it on chrome pro for me. Just wondering what these motors sleeves are good for. I am not used to d-series. I was used to the b17 gsr motor.

Oh and yes those are bmw wheels and tires. He put those on because the steelies that where on it where bald. I think I would like them better if the tires where smaller.

said that he didn't feel like paying grand for sleeves. I wouldn't put that much money into a d series either. He just wanted something fairly cheap and fun.

Look in the turbo sohc thread,to get better feedback from guys that actually have turbo sohc setups instead of guessing.

Without sleeves and with a good tune and assuming its built right your looking at it being able to hold 200-400whp.Thats the general idea of whats safe. The old vitara sedan did that on oem sleeves for a bunch of miles until it was wrecked.

The sleeves themselves, plus labor from a quality shop such as Benson...yes.

Honestly, on the D series...unless you're going for an all-out race setup, sleeves are not necessary IMO. To have a fun street setup w/ quality pistons/rods, etc it's just not needed.

The Vitara's have been continuously showing to hold up in the upper 300whp range....possibly 400's. However at that point in time with that amount of power, your stock sleeves will likely go out on you first

With my setup being built right now, I have CP pistons/Crower Rods with stock sleeves...among my array of other parts...It will be daily driven w/ around 300whp. Something like this, stock sleeves will be fine.

As to the OP, its not about what PSI you plan on running, its about how much POWER you want to make. If you're not going for high numbers, i would stick to the 250-300whp mark and this will make a very quick/fun daily driver. You should be perfectly fine on stock sleeves.

I agree with you.

Im doing an similar build to the op, tt rods, vitaras, arp's oem headgasket, looking for 300-350.Already got the turbo setup done and in the car, just building a spare block.

Do you know if the 2 fastest vitara powered cars have sleeves?

jfk was the first in the 10's but with the hp he has I would think he would have sleeves but it doesn't say so anywhere

I know this guy doesnt but hes at 383

^ His setup goes to exactly what you were saying that sleeves aren't really needed for a fun car.

To the op again depending on what size housings are on your holset you may or may not be able to run it.I mean you could but if the housings are on the bigger side it's going to be laggy as hell on the street, and you might have to build the head/valvetrain to take advantage of its full power band.

yeah the plane was for around 300 to 350 horse. So it should work. I am already saving up for a new better set up for when this one goes or for when I get sick of it.
