Default Rsx Springs...

Does anyone have lowering that only give you like an 1" to 1.5" gap on the stock wheels? I'm just wondering what would be a good kind of springs for my 02 Type s because the gap is huge but I plan to get them in a few weeks because I just got the car the other day lol.. If you could post a picture of your ride with the springs you have that would be great. Thanks

I've got TEIN SS. You can also try Eibach. I have no complaints about my springs.

for minor drops
look into eibach pro-kits, teins s-techs, and a-spec just to name a few

Eibach sportline gives you a 1.5in drop up front and a 1.8in drop in back. Thats what is advertized. The pro kit is less.

he was asking for a 1-1.5 inch gap (tire to fender) not the size in drop

but yeah, my sportlines give a less than a inch gap
pro-kit a little bit more of a gap

here's mine

(newer pic, shows off the gap better)

sportlines are fine but i think i would be just as happy with the pro-kit

There is only one company that makes aftermarket shocks for the rsx. Koni and the cheapest I can find them is 565 shipped. So figure that plus 200 for springs you are at 765. You can get tanaba full coils for 750. Save 15$ and always be able to adjust height, plus you dont have to drill out your front shocks.

I was reading this thread, and I am not trying to hijack it but what do you mean that you will have to drill out the front shocks? I am also looking to lower my 03 Type S with springs because I am going for mainly cosmetic on the stance for now. Also the red RSX is beautiful!

I keep getting a lot of people asking me this question. First I would like to state no matter what ebay or any other sites say, KONI is the only company that makes performance aftermarket struts for the rsx. Yes, you can get ep3 shocks and use them on the rsx, but you must then swap to ep3 tire rod ends since the rsx will not work. Now to the explanation…

Now let me explain this in detail so that way I can just refer to this thread for now on.

First let’s start off with a picture of what you get when you order a pair of front and rear shocks from koni. As you can see I pointed out the fronts and rears.

Notice how the fronts are basically just a "stick" type (you will see the difference in a moment).

Now, let’s move onto the stock shocks. I got this picture from ebay so thanks to the person that took it. As you can see I went ahead and circled the fronts that are in the picture. You will see, they aren’t just the “sticks” you see in the KONI picture. In the stock picture you can see I also circled a part in blue. This is the part that you have to reuse in order for the KONI shocks to work. In order to do this you must drill out the old “stick” part that is oem, and then put in the new KONI shock. I have no idea how you drill it out as it seems like a real PITA and I would rather just get the full coilover set up.

but in my case (and i'm sure many others, not everyone but many)i do not plan on adjusting them whatsoever
i don't autox nor track my car on a regular basis
maybe once/twice a year
so it won't benefit me as much as the next guy

don't get me wrong, i think coils are great
but as i mention above it just differs from person to person and what their goals are

regardless you can't use the stock stocks when doing just springs. The ride is complete ****. Have I tried it? Yes, I had it on my si. Trust me night and day diff. Plus lowering your car WILL shrink your strut life no matter if you only go an inch lower. The coils that I am talking about are not damper adjustable, rather just height. I also do not do track events, but also did not want to be dumped like some. Trust me I researched the hell out of this and can answer any questions anyone has.

I by no means am pushing coilovers on anyone, but I wish I was able to get the information I found now when I did previous suspension set-ups. It just is more logical to get the entire set up now rather than down the road. At the very least if you just want springs I would get the mugen set-up which is JUST lowering springs which you can not adjust damper or height and they also include the strut assembly which is a bolt in deal, no drilling. They can be had for around 700 used but then again you are in the coilover price.

The Koni is such a superior shock to a set of cheap coilovers that it isn't funny. Also, height adjustability is completely overrated in terms of a street coilover. Once you set it, you pretty much leave it. If you go screwing with height, you'll be good buddies with the alignment shop because everytime you tweak rideheight, your car will be out-of-alignment.

Plus, a good shock/spring, if installed properly, will be OEM like. Some coilovers tend to make noises, give you a rough ride (because they are linear springs), etc.

My point is, don't knock a good shock/spring combo because they are superior to a cheap coilover, even though the price is similar.

20$ more gets you a life time alignment as long as you own the car.

I heard far more noises with my springs that my coilovers. I have YET to hear a noise.

Like I said I am not pushing coilovers on anyone but just trying to shed some light where people are misunderstood. I would so go for it if the shocks were throw up and play but drilling out the old is such a PITA and when you go to sell the car you have to source another set of oem shocks. not worth it

It's a lot more than that around me, and a few of the places won't do it if you keep changing your ssuspension around.

Then your springs were not installed correctly, or there was another problem. A good aftermarket spring should make no more noise than the OEM spring.

You could just leave the Konis on and put the OEM springs back on. Use that as a selling point. But, if you keep the car the Konis have a lifetime warranty and can be fixed in the USA and turnaround time is usually pretty quick.

People seriously under-estimate the value of a good quality shock. They do as much, or more, for handling as anything else on the car--even tires.

thats a nice drop like i said. I was going to get the TIEN S but they make the car look kind of factory hight. I believe Sportline has a 1.7/2.0 drop too. or is it NUESPEED?

do you think a 1.7/2.0 drop would make my tires rub the fenders?.. thats why I havent buy any springs yet. I Nuespeed a good brand?

BTW: loving the drop on your car.

there's definitely a noticable difference in height from stock to s-techs

not as low as the sportlines but nowhere near as high as stock

tiens makes good stuff as well

no, i don't have any problems with rubbing at all

my wheels are 17x8 and my tires are 222/45/17

also, thanks for the compliment
