Heat Shields!?!!?
ok i have a 99 civic ex and the heat shield is about to fall off under my engine. the heat shield itself is on my exhaust pipe that runs for the headers to the cat and to get it replaced it is like $250 and there is no way in hell im paying that. So my question is do i need it and how much would a replacement cost. i talked to a guy who is a mechanic at the dealership i work at and he said he would put is on if i get the part but if i don't need it then i jus wont do it any advice/ help would be great thanks
Psh, not really. Nah, you don't really need it unless you've got a pretty high output engine. My bud had me take his old one off because it was catching rocks inside and making horrible rattling, buzzing sounds. That was more than two years ago, and he's NEVER had any problems related to that.
Side Note: For implied safety reasons, I'd suggest you try a little to avoid dry grass fields though.
