Default WHY replace water pump???

OK that's my question. I just changed the timing belt on my car, and all the other threads say change the water pump and oil pump. (Oil pump when you rebuild.) But if your car not over heating why change it? I mean when stuff wears out change it but when stuff is in working order why do people change it?

chances are, by the time you get to your timing belt replacement interval, there will be some slight drip coming out the weep hole. not a STEADY drip, but you know what i mean..

it's that green or blue, kinda dried build-up.

just replace the damn thing. lol. or save yourself $60.00 and don't do it.. then do the labor all over again in a year when it truly does start to **** out the weep hole.

Water pump involves a bearing, which is being spun everytime the car is on. Bearings wear out...change it while you are in there.

that's my excuse & I'm sticking to it.

Um, as previously stated, they're cheap, you're in there anyway, and might as well, since it will most likely go out.

Because when it does break (which is usually shortly after the timing belt change interval) its going to be JUST as much work to change the water pump as it was to do your timing belt. Water pumps have bearings and seals. The seals tend to give out and then the bearing is next. Overheating your car or getting stranded because "it wasn't broke 10 miles ago" isn't a good idea.

Preventive maintenance.

The real question should be: What could possibly happen if I do not replace my waterpump?

Here's another way of saying the same thing as everyone else.

It takes a lot of time/work to replace the timing belt.

It takes a lot of time/work to replace the water pump.

It's almost exactly the same steps (which is why everyone is saying "as long as you're in there anyway").

The labor is a lot more expensive (or valuable, if you're DIY) than the relatively small cost of the new water pump.

Water pumps do fail after a while.

So, you can take a lot of time/work to do the timing belt, put it back together, and then if the water pump fails, you'll have to do spend all that time/work all over again a second time. Or, you can replace the water pump when you do the timing belt, basically just for the small added cost of the water pump, and you won't have to risk having to do the work again because the new water pump should last you for a long time.

Maybe that helps explain. Or maybe it's redundant. < shrug >

so i just did another timing belt job, why, cuz my water pump was LEAKING. yeah i had to go in there and i swapped the timing belt, water pump and all the seals and drive belts.

More likely just a cheapskate who didn't spend the extra few bucks to do the job while it was nice and easy.

Without reading... here's why.

If you are doing the work yourself and like getting back into things... leave the old one, you WILL return to it at some point before the T-belt again

If your not doing the work and paying someone else to do it, you can pay the price of the part now or you can pay the price of the part, plus all the labor again to get to it.

It's a preventative maintenace part. Think, would you want to leave your car on the side of the road/parking lot because you didn't replace what you should have when you had it apart? It's simple and cheap. Do it now and have no worries about it later.

for even asking this.

You're so angry. What's wrong today? Not enough hugs available? Well here's an e-hug from the friendly parts specialists at Sons Acura.

Reminder to do your preventive maintenance or it'll cost you time and money later down the road.

Are you poor or something? Its a cheap part and a pain in the *** to replace. Why run the risk of a WP failure at 100k+ miles. How is this ITR related?
