Default remote keyfob (key fob) - where to get it?

HI all,

So I am about to purchase a used Civic. The car does NOT come with a keyless / remote keyfob... I know Honda dealerships probably sells them for about $100? I was wondering if anyone knew other places where I might be able to get them for cheaper.

Thanks,
jt

What year is the civic you are buying??

I ask because '06+ has the fob built into the key.

it's a 2006... yea you are right the fob is indeed part of the key for that model. the key+cutting was $36, but not programmed! (not for keyless entry, but the chip inside the key to get the car started) that would cost extra $90ish by the dealer! I imagine this is not somehting we could do ourselves?

Hey IT Guy

Thanks man for the help. The dealer from which we bought the car from actually agreed to pay for half of the cost... so it was $45 for us to program the chip in the key.

I still think you got it handed to you. An 06 is barely used, if you bought it certified from a honda dealer I would have demanded the key from them. If they want to keep that car on the lot and watch it lose value, they can, or they can send you home with it at a loss of $95
