does anyones armrest seem hot, or is this normal?? the thing is averytime i drive around for a while, hot air starts coming out around the radio, armrest, shifter, and e-brake area.
i was just wondering if its normal or sumething is really getting hot down there!!

It's normal in hot weather for that to happen, but you could be the first to rig a complete system of internal cooling fans to keep the superstructure of the car well ventilated...

Well, is your exhaust mounted relatively close to your civic body? Because that may be generating the excessive temperatures that you seem to be worried about. However, I don't think you'll be having any serious problems. You could check underneath your car to see if there's any heat damage to your shifter bushing as well.

Also, is there evidence of excessive heat like that which you've described during colder weather as well?

 

My stock exhaust has put off this heat since I got the car over four years ago. It's normal.

Almost forgot about that. Shortly after I bought my Civic (from the northeast), the heat shield fell off. It actually happened Christmas Eve as I was leaving a friend's house. It started dragging on the ground suddenly. I now have new piping to replace the rusted stock stuff, but it's all stock spec (just stainless now!).

A new heat shield might help, but it's not really something bothersome to me.

 

Thanks guys.. yea it doesnt really bother either i was just concerned if it was something not normal.. and in the winter the same thing does happen except a little cooler but it feels good when its cold
so if i get new piping will that stop or do i still need a heatshield??

 

cars aren't supposed to be totally sealed. they're designed to have some airflow to bring in some fresh air. maybe this is what you're experiencing?

The seventh digit of your VIN will tell you what it was from the factory.

Now you have the path that the auto cables go through and you probably test fitted your shift linkage up to it and was like "what the hell this thing is in the way" well thats correct it is. What to do is cut it out with your dremmel. You have 2 choices, 1. make a plate or 2 drive with a big hole, and lost of road nose and exhaust heat.

There is going to be a heat shield in the way, take off that heat shield and if you want to do what i did your going to cut a piece of that for your plate. Cut your hole as close to the chassis as you can. The smoother the better. Grind down the paint a little so the harden stuff can stick better. Also grind down the plate so it sticks good, but do both sides of it. Now when you got it nice and clean put your Goop on the bottom and press it up to the chassis until it settles. When it settles take your Quick Steel and spread it all around and get all the gaps. and let it harden and then your set, no road heat

I have a 93 EX coupe and the resonator rusted off beneath the ebrake. The console is warm and can be sometimes hot if I have been running all day with it. Currently I am just driving with the window down until I can replace the pipe just to let fresh air in..
