I am putting a Usdm b18c5 type r under the hood with lsd. I have three questions. One is what kind of power can I expect to get with cai/header/exhaust? Ecu and a good tune will come later.
Also the swap is being done for 3500 installed it has about 90k miles on it, is this a good deal?
Last but not least, it's a true cai from aem that goes down into the wheel well, we are putting a bypass valve on it. I want to know is that fullproof protection from hydrolocking the motor, or should I just opt for a short ram? This car is going to be my baby, so any and all input is appreciated! Thanks

with the intake header and exhaust I dont think it will make much of a diffrence. But your getting the swap for 3500 installed and for the motor?!?! if so, that is one hell of a deal.

Im getting the car for 3500, and the swap installed everything running for 3500. So 7k total. I will have pics up tomorrow, the car is immaculate. =D So power wise I still don't have an answer, or about the bypass valve?
I had a 94 ex before with a gsr w/ lsd she was quick. I just wanna know since the gsr weighs a little more, what kind of power I can expect with that type r swap?
Thanks guys
PICS TOMORROW =]

you're paying 3500 for a blown GSR?? dude, i got my 96 GSR with 135k on it with beautiful int, and fairly nice body, in MR, for 3500, wow, you must have really wanted a teg huh?
if i were you i would get a LS shell and swap the type r in there. Insurance is slightly cheaper on a LS than a GSR.
and 3500 is a lot for a GSR with a blown motor.
If it rains where you are get a short ram thats the only 100% pertection you will have against hydrolocking.

Listen carefully, its the WHOLE CAR lol, with blades, brand new tires, cross drilled rotors, full exhaust etc...black leather interior with ZERO wear. The exterior isn't fairly nice, it looks like it came off the showroom floor. It's not a 96, it's a 99... The guy is including all the parts to rebuild the bottom end which could then be sold. You're seriously telling me that im getting a bad deal for 3500?? *scratches head* Someone with some knowledge give me some input please. Thanks.

im telling you that a GSR WITH A BLOWN MOTOR FOR 3500 IS A LOT. you can get a integra without a blown motor for cheaper. If its blown it means he abused it which means he abused the car which means more wear and tear on everything. GOT IT.

Thanks for the input on the intake liquid, but you haven't seen the car and you don't know what you're talking about so please enough. The motor had a spun rod bearing, because some guy didn't know how to weld the oil pan I believe. Enough of the non-helpful tips here, anything constructive is welcomed. I still didn't get an answer as to what a good price is for a perfect condition gsr, with a fixable motor anyone??
3400 for a shell is silly, even if it is in great condition, without a motor its just not worth it, tell the guy to sell you the shell for 2500 (if its in as good condition as you say) and keep the motor to rebuild himself.

Thanks blah, I thought about that... but the guy who is putting in my type r is taking that motor as partial payment. This car is beautiful, and when the type r is dropped in it will be even moreso. So haters take the Exit door, everyone else is welcome. =]

i dont think there is anybody here that is actually hating, but if you made a thread and you ask for opinions and you have to listen to them.....and yea i also think is a lil be pricey but if you like it thats what really matter...
I just picked up a 94 GSR with a hydolocked motor for $700. So the bypass is a good idea. I am going to rebuild the motor w/ ITR pistons. Good luck with your project.

Thanks lscivic, you're right its a public forum I see the error of my ways. I guess I just wanted different input. I fell in love with the car when I saw her, and I decided just to fix the motor so I will have everything for 4500 bucks running. I think I will do a k series or a type r later on down the road. Thanks again for the input.
if i where you i would just try and find some 1 sellin a 94 97 shell no motor in it to save money and just convert it to a 2000 .... 3500 install is a really good price but 90k is kinda crazy for the miles but then agian its a honda motor
...... i would use the aem intake its a dyno proven intake to make the lil power it does make and the by-pass to me is ponitless just dont drive though a river styled puddel when it rains ...... power range should be around 186 too 190 to the floor witch is great for a every dat car

Yea I knew 3500 installed for a type r full swap with lsd, performance headers and new timing belt was a good price, I just wanted to know what kind of power to expect in the heavier gsr body. Thanks for the input, anyone else had experience with this setup?? Thanks
I guess my biggest question is, would I really see that much more power than the gsr swap vs the type r in that body? I would put an lsd on the gs-r if I went that route...

KBB.com private party value. i dont know your miles so i put 100k
Condition with Value
Excellent
$7,005
Good
$6,415
Fair
$5,670
minus $3500 maybe? i'd say drop him to at least 3k if it looks THAT good.

Yea the body has about 115k, so yea very close. Yea I offered him 3k, but he wouldnt budge off 3500. I assure you it is in jaw dropping condition for the year. Im going to get it because the only other deals around here I have found had body dmg, etc.. Plus I trust the guy im getting the swap from. So once that is done she should be a screamin machine.
I may have paid a little more than some, but the people who said im paying to much have yet to show me a better deal... So yea im content, I just wanted to know from someone who has a similiar setup what kind of power I can expect!! =p
Thanks

To answer your question, a body has nothing to do with how much power the motor has. Every motor is different and the only way to tell how fast it is, is take both of them to the track. I've seen stock type-r's run anywhere from 16.0-14.0 at the track. There are way to many variables to give a straight answer.
Yes 3500 is to much no matter how clean it is, but they are nice cars and when you see them and have money its hard to say no to a 98-01 gsr.

Yea everyone I talked to said for 3500 installed a 97 spec b18c5 w/ lsd etc is a good deal even at 90k miles. Im still considering building the gsr bottom end, it would be cheaper, but of course the type r will produce more power. Ughh decisions decisions. :\
u need to jump on the itr motor and if u wanna rebuild the gsr bottom end then sell the itr swap to finance it, but that is too good of a deal to pass up

Well I have the 99 gsr with the motor that had a spun rod bearing. I haven't purchased the type r swap yet. Im still debating on either rebuilding the bottom end with je or srp pistons and eagle h beam rods and a new acura crank. The head is fine, I will touch that later if I go that route. Or I can just sell the motor to help pay for the 3500 $ type r swap installed. I have a week or so to decide so anymore input would be great.
