Default Hello and introduction

Hey Guys,

I'm new on these boards, as I just sold my TT prepped Evo and bought this:
http://www.race-cars.com/carsa...s.htm

My first honda race car, and I'm looking forward to it! I will run in TTA in NASA norcal TT, and PTA in the race group next year. the car is illegal for HC due to the non honda internals...I'll still be in the same race group as the Honda guys though Did quite well in TT with the Evo, we'll see with the CRX...should be fairly potent with 215 WHP to move 2240 pounds with me in it! Not to mention about 1/2 as expensive to run. the Evo got 3MPG on track with 100 octane, one weekend out of a set of race pads, etc... a freaking money pit, and I popped 2 motors to boot....I'm sure I will have a lot of questions, hopefully I can get some answers here.

Peace.

Percy

Why can't you run this in H1 where it was raced?

It's not legal for HC, but I would suggest to run it in HC a few times for fun run anyway. Looking forward to see you in Thill. Stop by and say hi to us.

Can I run in the race group and not be eligible for points? I'd love to if that's possible. I'll definitely stop buy next time out at t-hill. I'll be there to run TT at the October event (backwards configuration).

Mike's car is a great car....no doubt, but I got too good of a deal on the CRX, and it included an open trailer...my allowance got a little smaller with a baby on the way in 7 mos...so it was financial mostly. Mike Browning's car, the CRX I bought is very well-prepared, if not legal in HC. TT is my focus the next few years at any rate, and I will run PTA and ITE with SCCA...

You can definitely run with HC but not for point. Hope you'll make Thill in less than 2 weeks.

That was the old super D CRX huh? Although I'm very bummed you didn't buy my car, good luck with your new honda. It looks like a very cool car.

You should totally fun run HC with us at thunderhill...it'll be good times.

Cood car. But if you're on a budget, I'd sell that engine immediately. Use the money to get a legal H1 or H2 engine. And a spare. And some tires... B20 H2 motors are selling from $450-600. You could get a LOT more than that for the motor that's in there.

It would make a good deal even better.

Thaks for the suggestion John...but I do not want a slower car. I am coming from a 290 WHP 310 Torque Evo that weighed 2990....The b20 would not do it for me. I may just run a few HC fun runs, and run ITE next year getting used to the car before doing something crazy and going with K series power. I like fast cars...I know racing is relative, but racing a fast car with other fast cars is more appealing to me than doing H4 or SM...no judgement on my part, just my subjective need for speed. This car as it's equipped can also keep me competitive in NASA TT TTA as well, and no matter how much racing I do, I'll always do TT...I love the norcal group.

Percy,

no offense, but the the H1 class would be as fast as any TTA cars.

The record for H1 at Thunderhill is 1:59.x
The record for H1 at Infineon is 1:49.x

Just replace the bottom end with stock B18 bottom end. A re-tune and I doubt you will see a loss of more than 10 HP

what were your TTA times at various cali tracks? well sorted H1 cars are not slow by any standards. it's all about p:w ratio and good suspension and brakes which is why Honda's are so well rounded. you'd be hard pressed to have a faster production car based track car for under $15,000.

Hey guys,

I know that well-sorted H1 cars are fast as TTA cars. Definitely. I ran 2:02's at T-hill in my suspension limited Evo street/track car.o cage, soft springs (650 rear, 550 front, etc). What I was responding to was John Thawley's suggestion that I put a b20 in the car... that would not be as fast as an H1 or good TTA car. I know I can do quite well in TTA with this car, or with the car if I swapped out the bottom end. The only people that beat me in TTA in the past 2 years were Dave Bongiovanni in his Evo race car (my car was a modified street car) Neil Yonk in his Porcshe race car with 295 Hoosiers, and Robert Fuller with his Robispec Evo.

This is one reason I went with a prepped honda, they are just as fast as a lot of cars for relatively less $$$...I have caught a lot of **** from people about the car being "wrong wheel drive" but that's poseur crap. FWD is obviously not a limitation in the right hands. Just to clarify...I know H1 cars can be very fast!

well in norcal H1 is the place to be... since Honda Cup is SoCal based. you have a 1.8 that's making really good power. if you go with B20 (has to be all Honda parts for H1) should still be able to do 205-215 whp easily with torue increase to about 150-155 lbs. best of all now you're H1 legal. it kind of depends on what you are after i guess...

SCCA Honda Cup racing:

08/31/07 Fri Infineon SCCA Honda Cup
09/01/07 Sat Infineon SCCA Double Regional #7/Honda Cup

09/28/07 Fri Laguna Seca SCCA Honda Cup
09/29/07 Sat Laguna Seca SCCA Double Regional #9/Honda Cup
09/30/07 Sun Laguna Seca SCCA Double Regional #10

ps, 3 mpg are you kidding? that's is really crappy milage on the Evo...

Well,

Shows how litle I know about these cars... I was not aware that the b20 would make that type of power. At any rate, I'm not that worried about it for next year. I will run the car in TTA, and do some ITE and PTA races, and if allowed, a couple of "fun runs" in H1. I'll decide what I want to do from there. There is a possibility that due to some interesting economic twists of fate I may be able to purchase an Exige in about 18mos...if that's the case I'd race that instead...1 step at a time. All I know now is that I got a fast car for a good price, and I need to learn how to drive it quickly before racing it at any rate. I would assume it will behave somewhat differently than an Evo that had a mountain more torque but weighed 1000 pounds (litteraly with me in it) more. 3 MPG, yes...100 octane. Turbos suck gas...fuel for a NASA weekend would be 200.00+...and that was not running every session.

The B20/H2 route is not for everyone. I'm only suggesting that if you want to run HC, you'll never be in a better situation than you are now to sell that motor and get something that IS HC legal.

A K-series would be bitchen. I only suggested the B20 because you've said you're on a budget and I assume rebuilding a sleeved, forged piston race motor might not be as appealing as just running a cheap, disposable B-series that would bolt right in to the set-up you've got now.

But having a race car is not all about logic. Kick *** and have fun.

I'm only on a budget (relative) for a year, then all bets are off! If I stay with this car I'd like K series power. Thanks for all the insights though.

i think percy is going to have quit an exciting time in the crx.

600lbs less then the evo only 80 or so less HP, all in the super short wheel base crx!

don't forget...

Good to hear Mike's car found a good home. I've spent the last 3 years watching that car be raced and it was sad to see that when it was finally running really REALLY good, Mike decided to sell it, but I know what he's gonna be driving now, and I'm sure anyone on here would have done the same....WC E46 M3 FTMFW!!!
