Default New Key from Acura

I just bought a 05 Type S and it only came with 1 key so I just called Acura and they told me a new key would cost 90 dollars plus service fees. I think that is rediculous, have any of you had to do this, how much did it cost? I tried to use the search but it is down.

Thanks in advance

Go to your local locksmith. It is a clonable key. We charge $55 at my shop for a key. Just call around you may find it cheaper. Might want to ask if they have an RW2 machine or equivelent so that they can clone it.

some car keys have chips in them. my parents once had to get a replacement an they went an got a replacement made not by the dealer an it wouldnt work. they had to then bring it to the dealership for some chip. iono it might be why. only might.

Obviously your parents went somewhere other than a locksmith. A locksmith would have made them aware of this. Places like home depot, lowes, wal-mart, etc. haven't got a clue. Hell they can't even find the right key half the time let alone cut it right.

The RSX does have a transponder but you can "clone" the key versus going out to program it to the vehicle via OBD2 port and programmer. It's Hondas older transponder system.
