Default new to autobody. looking for guidance before doing a paint job.

okay, I dont have any pics that are decent enough for now, but they can be sourced and posted if need be. I basically just want to know what kind of process im looking at for a complete respray. the color will remain completely the same, inside and out. im familiar with the sanding/prepping process, but not in any detailed manner. most of this seems pretty straightforward. end result is that i am not looking for perfect factory results, just as clean as i can make it. all that being said, does anyone have a step by step process for prepping and painting a car for base and clear coat? further more, i have a body guy that will be assisting me here in town. he is still a student at a school near my town, and has access to purchase good materials at good prices. what exactly should i purchase as far materials?

any help, suggestions or encouragement is appreciated. thanks for your time!

P.S. i may have some more detailed questions after i get the pics uploaded.

Wash the car with dish soap to remove waxes and grease. Then wet sand the whole car with 1000...... theres your start.

exactly wash the car with a dish soap it strips some of the wax and a lot of the grease and dirt. mask moldings or any chrome(or if you can remove anything you can) then 1000 the whole car wet or dry whatever you prefer.
