Default ls/vtec safe rev limiter?

im getting an ls vtec motor put in my car this week and i want to know what i can safely rev to so i can set the rev limiter on hondata. from what i know: its a b18b1 block with a b16 head, type-r cams and aftermarket cam gears. tranny has a quaife lsd in it also, not that that would have anything to do with it i dont think. So what is a safe rev limiter to use? i was thinking dont take it over 7k normally but if im in it to win, so to speak, 7500 would be the absolute limit i would take it to. i just don't want to blow it up. help?

If the motor is done right you could go up to 8,500 but dont hold it ther to long the block isnt made for high RPM.

it depends a lot on how i was built and the tune. you should at least be able to take to to 8,000 safely but ive seen ls/vtec setups rev out to 8,500 with just ARP head studs. just make sure it was built right and talk to whoevers tuning it

from what i know, its a stock b18b1 bottom end with a stock b16 head other than type-r cams and cam gears. if i took it to 7500 would it already be in vtec for the next gear? thats the main reason im asking because i know in my old d16 motor with a 7200 rev limiter, it wouldnt shift into vtec. would 7500 get it into vtec for the next gear?

oh well, the guy who build mine told me that you can go till 7500 but you stop making power at 7200! the ls crank don't rev that high,so im not going over that plus its safer!!

what do you mean the crank doent go that high? I used to rev my b20 out to 9k and it the same crank and bearings as an LS. I just had rods and rod bolts. Also whoever built your motor cant tell you where it stops making power unless they already tuned it on the dyno. Just upgrade to some ARP rod bolts and you can rev the poop out of it if you want.

If the block is stock, and you just have head work, I wouldn't take it past the stock LS rev limiter.
