Default Cruise Control Gurus!!! Please Help. Brake Light Switch Etc . . .

94 Accord EX w/ Leather

Okay, let me start by telling you guys that I first ran through the troubleshooting manual. According to it my brake light switch is bad. BUT, my brake lights work just fine. Is it possible for it to be bad for the cruise but still work correctly for the tails? I appreciate it. Thanks.

Bogus Post
78 Accords don't have cruise.
But some of the newer models might have a 2 part brake switch

7-31 bump

I checked for continuity at the brake light switch and it gives me correct continuity when pressed but not when released. I believe it may not be releasing fully and needs a pedal height adjustment.

Still would like to make sure that this can give you a cruise problem without affecting brake light operation. Thanks.

A faulty brake switch and/or mounting can cause problems with cruise control, such as:

- cruise control cannot be set; or
- the set speed is not cancelled when the brake pedal is pushed.

But my question is can it do this without also affecting brake light operation?

Generally, when the brake pedal is depressed (the brake switch contacts are made), this shuts down the cruise control. Although your brake lights may still work, a faulty brake switch, from a jiggle or vibration, can have the contacts touch and shut down the cruise control while driving, even though you did not depress the brake.

Resolve the issue. Brake switch was adjusted at an incorrect height. Moved it down closer to the pedal and all works fine. The switch was too far away from the pedal resulting in the brake switch never knowing the brake pedal was fully released.

Thanks for the help.
