--- help .. brake pads
ok, i called a few places to get my brake pads changed .. i asked my dad .. he said for all four .. it should be around 100-120 bucks or so at some place next to my house. i called some other places .. and they asking for 250-330. is that a reasonable price ?? i mean, my friend that got his done, bought all 4 for like 40-50 bucks, does it really cost another 200 to install them ??
thats what you get when you dont do it yourself.
I have no idea what mechanics prices are supposed to be, I have never been to one. I just read stuff online and learn how to do it. Its rewarding and a billion time cheaper.

there are a few books you can buy at autozone or advance auto or whatever you got. Helems and Hayes. Someone will probably correct me on the spelling of thoes manuals if i got them wrong. Anyway brake pads are pretty easy and shouldn't take you too long. Are you upgrading your pads? what kind of car?
oh, its for a 95 ls integra.
i called up a few friends, and they said i should just buy the pads from autozone or pepboys, and bring it to this shop they know. charging about 40 bucks .. for labor, which includes installing the pads, and resurfacing the rotors. i'd figure i'd do that, then getting all dirty .. lol ..
thanks for the comments guys

If you plan to work on your car yourself, you can get the service manual for it, either a used one in the marketplace forums or on eBay, or a new one direct from Helm. However, the service manual assumes you have a fair amount of basic mechanical knowledge.
Changing brake pads is basically the same process for most cars. If you have a friend who works on his own car, he can help walk you through it.
There are also websites that are written more for beginners. For example, this website tells you how to do work on the NSX, but the process is basically the same as for other cars.
When you take it to a professional mechanic, they typically charge you for an hour of labor, for $75-110, plus parts. That's per axle (front OR rear pads).

try going to a pep boys or a auto zone and gettin pads and rotors i kno if i need the i go to napa auto near me and they charge me 12 dollors ech front rotor and 25 bucls for just the front pads
200 for labor sounds about right. At my work(autowerkes maine) we charge 2.2 hours for rear brakes/with adjusting parking brake. and the front pads/rotors 1.8 hours. so your looking at 4 hours labor book time. but then again, we work on Bmw porshe and mercadies so im not sure if all shops go by what we use or vise versa.
Id get a book and give it a shot. piece of cake. also, the rear caliper pistons wont just push in like the front. you need to "skrew" them back in. they sell a special diskbrake service kit for like 40 bucks at harbor frieght

if you want to be replacing them all the time then get the cheep ones, if not then invest a little. Since you don't know how to do it yourself, i would say to spend the money and get a set that's going to last. I'm guess that you drive faster than most and are not just driving ms daisy around in your car.
so yeah .. i went to the shop yesterday, had them replace my pads and resurface the rotors .. only the 2 fronts. costed 75 bucks. not bad in my opinion, i searched for the pads they used and they cost around 40 bucks .. so costed me like 35 dollars to resurface rotors, and installing pads.
