Door dosent know its open
My passenger side door on my 96 ex coupe does not know when it is open, the dome light dosent come on the little warning thing in the cluster dosent come on. I didnt care previously but i recently had a passenger in my car not shut the door all the way i went home locked it and went to bed i woke up and my cd player was ripped out causing much damage to my center colum my muffler i had in the back seat was stolen my tools were stolen from my trunk and my cds from my glove box! I think it was because the door was open when I locked the doors but I didnt notice because it dosent know its open..... so anyways my question is what do I need to replace/check to fix it so the dome light and cluster warning light comes on. thnx
I would check by seeing if the pin switch in the door jam is stuck closed. If it seems to be working fine, check for a short to ground along the wire.
I believe that the wire is shorted to ground when the door is open. So you would need to be looking for a break in the wire, not a short.
or if the screw that holds the switch in the door is missing then it wont ground out when the door is open, my driverside rear door is like that, the screw is missing and the light wont go on no ding nothin. check that too. the switch will stay in the door without the screw, its a tight fit.
It is a little push switch located on the lower side of the door jam. Look for the door latch hook on the body of the car when you open the door. Look down below that, you should see a rubber button. When the door closes, it press this button and tells it that the door is closed. You should be able to remove the rubber covering to look on the switch below it.
