Not sure if this is the right place, but since there are a fair number of wench heads here, I thought I would ask the question.
At the San Jose Grand Prix last weekend there was a vendor selling garage lifts at, what sounded like, a great price. I was wondering if anyone here has one in their garage. It looks like it would be a great tool for storing the car and working under it (cleaning, oil and filter and other maint & mods).

Here is the one I am looking purchasing. The show price was $1,600.
Any opinions?

I would not trust a machine that only cost $1600 to hold a car over another car, potentially being a very expensive problem if it fails...

I've seen one similar at my old neighbor's garage. It has locks to stop the lift from coming back down and releaves the hydrolics from holding the car up. Looks very well made in person and he used it to work on his cars all the time. Not sure I'd risk it as a Toyota dealership dropped a Camry on their own lifts and I'm sure those are well over 1600.

What is the point if you can't work on the suspension? I suppose you can use jackstands somehow, but a scissor type lift should be your only option when considering to purchase one.

Thanks for your feedback. I decided to pass on "this" deal. I checked into this a little more and your right, the quality was not the best.
As for the poster commenting about working on suspension, the idea was storage and ease to clean and inspect under the car. I am not looking for a mechanics lift. However, I may end up going that route, only so I can swap the wheels easy when the seasons change.
Just I need to reseach this more.
Thanks again.
