Default Tach Jumping, frustrated, need help!!

Spent lots of time researching and trying possible solutions, now . . .

OK, so first off the symptoms from my d16z6: the tach jumps around during acceleration, experience power loss, and hear a weird noise coming from engine bay, up front somewhere around the belts I'm guessing. Noise is tough to describe, never heard something like it.

First off, started by checking for loose grounds, all seem to be secured. Fuses, etc . . ok. So I changed the spark plugs, then cap and rotor. Still same problem. Did some more research, the changed the dizzy. First morning drove it to work, seemed fine, but on the way home, it acted up again. This has been a process of a couple weeks, and it's driving me nuts. Help me out guys, what else could this be???

ICM drives the tach. ICM is inside the distributor. Advanced Auto Parts and the like sell replacement distributors that a) don't work at all b) don't work quite right or c) work right for a really short period of time. Hopefully you don't have one of these.

Already installed new dizzy from Distributor King, wasn't it.

Tempurature seems to play a key also, is worse when it's hot outside. AZ heat, 115 really wreaks havoc. Been cooler, like 90's and is a little better.

You installed a new dizzy from D.King that worked on your way to work...but quit on you coming home...on the first day? And you don't think it could be the 'new' distributor?

This included D.King.

No misfires. When I accelerate a little firm there is an almost tin/metal vibration noise coming form up front. Can't find what that is.

I've only read good stuff about D. King's products . . . but I sure hope this thing is good.

sounds to me like you need to start checking the wiring. especially if the problem differs with temperature.

also check out the connectors and the like.

also... sounds like you need to narrow down what the noise is that you are describing.

T-Stat ground just may be it. It was just hiding back there, hanging loose, bolt missing. Hooked it up, just need a longer test drive but seems good.

Thanks all for the help and suggestions. Much appreciated.
