Oil Issues
Hey,
I have a 2000 V6 Accord. I always change the oil in it every 5000 miles and have always just got the basic 5w30 oil change service (i think thats the basic). At 30000 I changed the oil at a different place than usual and the guy from the oil place came running in telling me that my engine was "oil sludging" and I am causing huge damage to the car. I laughed at him and just told him to change the oil; I had checked the dipstick the day before and the oil color was still gold. The normal place i go to has never told me anything except my oil looks fine. Im at about 35000 (time to get it done) and yesterday when I drove my car it was making a clicking/knocking noise. I checked the oil dipstick and it was low. Is it possible that my car really is sludging and my engine is burning oil? I still have pretty low miles, 35000 like i stated. The color of the oil on the stick is still a gold color... I do live in Florida. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking your time to read!

What's the average journey time that you make?
Short journeys of less than 20 mins don't get the engine very hot. Therefore, water and other by-products of combustion could accumulate in the engine oil. I had an old BMW that only did short journeys and during the cold winter months the oil appeared to have little white globules in it especially around the oil filler cap. Presumably it was water that hand't been burnt off.
Best way of solving it is to take the car on much longer jouneys and get the engine properly hot. This helps burn off any water or moisture sitting in the sump.
Hope this helps.
