ok guys i have a 00 si which i am going to be getting re-painted in the next month. What i am asking is if i should spray the car with a base coat of primer even if i am going to be painting the car the stock color. My car is flamenci black pearl and i was told that all that needs to be done is body work to make sure that all the dents are out (quarter size dents on driver rear quater panel) and sanding the car to get rid of the old paint. A friend of mine will be doing all the work with help from me but i want to be sure that no steps are being missed since i will be around for the entire process.
I understand that i am being vague but can someone explain to me the correct way of the repainting process. The car is an excellent shape and the only all body parts will be replaced if need be. I am not trying to take the easy route. I have been saving since the beginning of the year and the only thing that i am paying for is parts.
i know some may say ask your friend but i want to ensure that everything is being done so we both dont miss any steps.

well since your painting it the orginal color all you have to do is do your body work wherever your doing it. primer out a couple inches past the filer. block it. feather in the edges. and for the rest of the car thats fine, get a da and 1000 the rest of the car, 1000 it till theres no more shine. mask it up and your ready to paint.

Yes!,very true less paint, and also helps cover your body work(bondo scratches).also it protects from adhesion(preventing rust) to the aluminum body.
(I'd recommend BASF sealer)
