Hope someone can help me out here, I have a 97 civic Ex (automatic) and the car will not shift into drive front the park position, unless I put the key in the shift lock and put it in neutral to start it up and then put it in gear and the car is fine. I just tryed to install a new brake light switch and a new switch assembly, and still nothing! Does anyone know what this is??

 

see if the shifter cable is binding up, you need to take off the transmission inspection cover to check the tranny side. Check under the shifter trim panel too, see if anything looks wrong. Sorry, not an automatic guy but this happened to a customer car and a new cable fixed it.
