Hey Honda Prelude lovers....
I have a 98 lude...love it...my first car...couldnt ask for a better one!
I have one problem..my reverse does not work and it only drives in one gear..1st one (automatic) it does not shift up!!!
I checked the transmission oil and it was fine...
Did anyone had a problem like that???
Please let me know if u know how to help me...
I went to a small shop and the first thing they told is my transmission is dead and asked for $1700..so they can rebuild it...
i dont have that kind of money..if tahts is the problem I would have to sell my lude and i really dont want to!!!

Try putting it into 1st (shift to very bottom) Stop, and put it in 2 (does it work?), 3 ..... do any of those work?


the Auto Trannys are considered "ticking time bombs" on Preludes... they suck, you either get a good tranny or a bad one

 

I personally would not buy/pay for a new/rebuilt Tranny. I'd just go buy a used one for a few hundred at most and get it swapped in.

But that's me..

 

swapping in a used auto tranny isnt that great of an idea either.. since its days are limited and its already mid-life usually =X i'd do the whole shabaNg and get the 5spd swap. but yeah it does sount like ur lude's tranny is out x .x

 

If I had the cash to do a 5 spd swap, id gladly sell you my SS tranny....

 

Eh, well, just pick a JDM Auto Tranny, it'll have low mileage on it. But I'd rather do that rather than spend $2000 to rebuild it.
And he doesn't have money to rebuild his Auto Tranny, so he can't do a 5spd Swat, so that's his best bet.
