will an EG automatic transmission go into an EK

a friend of mine needs a new auto trans for his 00 civic DX. Can I use one from the 92-95 civic?

I actually tried putting a 96-00 in an eg, the eg uses a cable to the tb to shift and the ek uses sensors.

I'm pretty sure the manual trannies are interchangeable, but I'm not sure about the auto trannies.
