Default performance and handling change?

Alright, I have 17 inch wheels with 215/45/hr17's. Is there any performance and handling changes from the stock wheels with upgraded tires, like the falken azenis with 205/50/15? I need a good reason to "downgrade" from what I have now. The most important thing with my car is handling, so, will going from the 17's to 15's be a bad move handling wise? Thanks

The type-r came with 15s so.... And that car is particualy made for AutoX..

I have 17s with Tokico adjustables with lowering springs, and my car handles pretty damn good.

No, it is not a bad move. 17s obviously weigh more. They also slow down your acceleration a little bit. I'm no expert, but I think the 15s will help you car handle better. You don't see too many road racers on 17 inch rims, I just can't think of the most straightforward answer right now.

With equal tires, the 17's should give better handling and slower acceleration.

BTW, is your avatar a gerbil with a rocket launcher...

it depends on the tires you get for both. w/ the 17's their most likely heavier and will slow your acceleration more rotational mass/inertia but might corner a little better w/ smaller stiffer sidewalls (again depends on the tires used).. w/ larger wheels and stiffer sidewalls it might handle a bit better (it all depends on what tire you have) the heavier 17's might also cause your car to stop a few feet further than w/ lighter 15's... if you get a good tire on your 15's it should handle very well also...
