E-brake when parking?
Definitely on inclines. Some of my friends never put on the e-brake and it just hurts my ears when they shift it out of park. Sounds like it is going to break.
I always set mine. One time I went to get an alignment and the guy thought my car was a stick cuz the ebrake was set. So he gets on the gas with the car still in park. It was pretty funny.
remember that e-brake is actually a nick name for the parking break. the rear breaks are still tied into the hydraulic system, and the proper pressure is sent to the wheel cylinders to engage the rear breaks without locking them up.
using the parking break could lock up the rear wheels causing you to loose control. yes drifting is done with the hand break, yet it is not safe to use like during daily driving.
now back to the topic at hand. yes you should use the parking break all the time. It will lessen the strain on the transmission, and is also a fail safe. places like San Fransisco it is really important, on step grades and what not. you are also suppose to turn the wheel toward the curb so that if both the trany and break go out it will be stoped by the curb instead of rolling out into traffic.
sorry, but my teachers always went off on me when I called it an e-break.

If I can let off the brake pedal, and the car does not roll, I will either put the car in gear (manual), or park (automatic) and not use the e-brake. If the car will roll in either direction in neutral, I use the e-brake.
