Calling SRS airbag experts..............
My red 1995 Civic EJ1 coupe has been rebuilt from the unibody up. I have been in a number of shows with great results.
I have successfully transplanted an AP1 (2000-2003) S2000 steering wheel into my Civic thanks to a highly modified and lengthened EK steering column. It looks wonderful, and I have the horn and cruise control working. I beleive that I am one of the few who have done this in an EG/EJ Civic due to the stock steering column incompatibility. Check out the pics.
The remaining thing to do is get the SRS airbag working. Yes I know the easy way out is to leave it disconnected, but my car is not a racer. It is a fully functional OEM hybrid with full amenities just like it could have come from the showroom floor this way.
I can get the airbag to easily physically plug into the existing wiring and SRS computer BUT..............the 64,000 question is will the newer airbag function properly or accidentally deploy when connected to the earlier SRS computer?
Both the Civic and S2000 airbags have a single 2 wire connector. The wires for both are color coded the exact same. Both airbags are single stage. My logic and common sense tell me that I can be reasonably sure that it will work, but I will not do it till I know for sure.
I know that people put the S2000 and other OEM steering wheels in EK, EM, and EP Civics; 97-01 Preludes, and maybe some other Hondas. But I never had heard of these people also connecting the SRS airbags with successful results.
I would like to hear back from folks with definitive and not speculative answers. Thank you.

sucks that no one knows errrr. I still need to hook up the air bag also. I have tested the eg srs connector going from left to right 123456 (pins)
1 is horn and cc (cruise control)
2 cc
3 cc
4 air bag
5 air bag empty pin
6 air bag
so the problem seems to be pin 4 and 6. I wonder what would happen if pin 4 and 6 and wired to the s2000 air bag in reverse positions
i don't want to blow up an expensive air bag. Trial and error doesn't seem very wise here.

an s2000 airbag requires its own module. in all honesty i dont know how you could ever get that to work. due to impact sensors, other airbags linked to module, voltages, resistances, and mych more. dont wanna burst ur bubble though
ps. im a tech at a honda dealer

The ap1 air bag looks to be a single stage air bag with only 2 wires going into it. At the end of the srs system is the air bag, and it's only function is to detonate/deploy if the computer determines that it is required and sends a signal. If you look at the entire srs system with all its sensors, it will only make it seem more complicated than it really is. What we are looking at here, is just replacing one single stage air bag with another single stage air bag. Both the wires to these air bags are identical (civic eg 92-00 and s2000 99-03). It is only the connector between these bags that are different. People have successfully hooked up an s2000 air bag to to civic 96-00 and the srs light does not stay on, which indicates that the srs computer have run it's checks and determined that the air bag should be functional and is ready to deploy. The problem with the 92-95 air bag is that the wiring is not color coded in the srs reel so it's not very easy to just cut off the connector and wire them together because nothing is known about the function of the wire, ie polarity. If the s2000 air bag works in the 96-00 civic then in theory it should work for the 92-95 since the 92-95 and the 96-00 are identical except for the connector. errrrr
