How to check for check engine light codes!!!!
How can i check for codes without going to a mechanic....My problem is I jus swapped a D15B VTEC into my 1990 civic i still have the p28 ecu from my last motor the D16Z....I've hooked everything up an i the car starts, runs an idles but the motor kinda surges after 1000 rpms an i have whats seems like a 3500 rpm redline.....My only guess might be my O2 sensor i have a 2wire an was told i need a 4wire, please help!!!!

You have to use the ecu service jumper wire and attach it to a ground to check what code it is throwing. The wire should be the only one that isn't loomed together at the ecu. Once attached to a ground, put the key in the "on" position and it will then blink the code on the gauge cluster.
As for the O2 sensor, it will throw a code for it if you don't run the heated o2 sensor, but your symptoms wouldn't be because of that.
Edit: you beat me to it.
