I understand that manual transmission may not be practical for you, but stay away from the automatics. They are basically guaranteed to fail.

hmm. im still thinking about getting an auto prelude. my mom drives a 99 accord v6 coupe and i heard those were notorious for having the tranny go out but its been 100k+ miles on it with no tranny problems.

ok all your gonna hear all over the forum is get a manual get a manual, well in my experience the 5th gen auto is a really great car, runs fine, still vtec's when it needs to, just make you dont forget the basic maintenence. Also make sure when you do a test drive to drive it hard to about 55mph to see if you have to change anything in the steering, my prelude had recalls in that area and the previous owner never took care of, so make sure those have been straigthend out first, other than that, they are beautiful machines

why would u buy something prone to failure? i mean i understand there are exceptions.. but majority>minority. i mean if ur gonna put money into something.. dont u want the best bang for ur buck? why not just get a 4gen w/ the traditional automatic, those are more reliable than the sportshift.. where are you located? if ur in california I have a lottttt of nice deals ive been eyeballing lol

haha its not that i want something prone to failure.
im not going to beat on the car and will take care of everything maintenance wise its just i like the styling of the 5th gen better.

unless i see some kind of statistics that says 80%+ of auto 5th gen preludes transmission goes out after xxx amount of miles then id be more cautious. but i dont mind seeing those deals.

Im sure if you drive the Auto Prelude easy, it will last for 200K just like any other Honda....... All my family has had good look with Accords, and Integras, all have been automatics... I would never buy an automatic because of performance, which is why most people are saying dont buy it.. Im sure the tranny goes out because people beat on them. Take care of it and it will last forever. Although I have heard stories about Automatic preludes, and not about any other Automatic Honda, I'd still trust a honda..
