Portflow or Toda Valvesprings?
Which are preferred - - or which are/would you use?
Some insight as to why you would choose one or the other would be very helpful as well.
I picked up a set of inners from Mike K
, however I see many people recommending the Toda valves. I'm runnings some B's.. wondering everybody elses opinion.
Thanks all.

toda toda toda
i don't think you'll go wrong with either...
But I went with toda for the peace of mind. I just felt that the manufacturer knew about matching parts more than I do.....

I was using the PortFlow/ITR set up with my B spec's .to 9000 almost every day for 1.5 years with not a problem
But now that I'm going to C spec's..peace of mind is what I want ..so I went with the Toda spring set

I would recommend the Portflow inners, with the stock ITR outers, for Toda B's. Reason being that they're stiff enough to rev to about 9200rpms (I've hit 9500+ without problems). Toda valvesprings are stiffer, and the stiffer springs U use, the more stress it puts on the timing belt, tensioner and cams.

I’m currently running the ITR/portflow setup with my Spec B cams. But I just purchased Toda valve springs because I want the extra peace of mind.
Ok - I'll bite and ask. Everybody keeps saying peace of mind. I'm all for it, but are you saying that because a) the manufacturor of the cams recommends and distributes them for "use" with their cams, or b) portflow springs have failed on peoples engines causing rebuilds?

on ITR/Portflow spring failures that I know of...Just I would prefer to Use the Toda Kit for my set up with the C Spec's...Don't get me wrong but the Portflow set up is awesome and has been proven for quite some time....but if I was to do It over I would get the Todas from the start...that way I wouldn't have to upgrade likle I'm doing now
I have portflow inners/itr outers right now and i was considering getting toda springs. But i've emailed the portflow guys and they said my springs will be fine with toda B's. He even said that he has customer's revving to 9k daily and without problems. Portflow knows what they're doing. But i can see why people would want to buy toda valve springs. It simply to warranty their cams incase anything breaks. But if you're like me, and you bought your cams used, then you have no warranty.
This might not be reflecting on everyone, but maybe some of them are just buying it cause they think if they pay more money, then they'll be safer. For you ITR guys, i'm sure it feels really weird spending 80 bucks for inners when you're supposed to buy the whole set of toda valvesprings for 350.

I dont blame you for going with the kit on the Spec C's... I would probably do the same.
As far as Toda warrantying them because you used their spring kit, I somewhat doubt it. Too much to factor into how the head was put back together, et al.. for them to warranty **** like that. If they do, hell...

This fall I plan to rebuild my head and that is why I just purchased the Toda springs.
When I had the Spec B cams installed I went the ITR/Portflow rout because I was on a budget. They have worked fine and are still doing the job for over a year, and I rev to 9000-9200 quite often.

Better question is(to those with toda cams): Who had timing belt problems and what valve springs they where using when it shredded?
but also he never change the timing belt went he did the cams (do cause it was fairly new)
Toda
it is made to work with their cams so why searching around. Stiffer springs doesn't mean it is better and you have to consider the lift of the cams and durability.

What about SKUNK 2 complete valvesprings w/ retainers? In an application of Pr3 head w/ Itr Cams and planning to rev to 8,800 max? Has anyone proven skunk2 as a reliable spring /retainer setup?

Itr cams need ITR springs.

i have always thought the portflows were stiffer and now the chart shows..just go Toda
...OT: just like a local kid ran JunIII's and cheaped out on gears (skunks) that slipped the other day now he has 16 bent valves. go figure.
