Default anyone have a wiring diagram for stock cd player 99 civic

I know what the wiring diagram is for the radio connector, What I need is a wiring diagram for the addon cd player that sits below the factory radio. I've searched all over the internet for this and had had no luck.

What I am trying to do is hook a Ipod into this connector. Now I might be wrong but I am assuming that the cd player will have inputs for the right and left channel going into the factory head unit.

Thanks

Why not just get a adapter made to plug into the cd changer port on the radio.

well after looking at what a $100.00 + adapter can do it in my mind is a waste of money. I really wish I could find a head unit that would seamlessly control the ipod but again after reading many reviews it seems that the aftermarket head units are also falling short of the mark.

So I figured if I could get this option to work even though it would be far from perfect I would be happy with it until a good head unit came out.

So in closing anyone know have the wiring digram for the cd/cd changer cable going into the stock head unit

By the time you build the unit that recognizes that something is plugged into the CD port, [so it will switch to that] you can buy the adapter, and for less then $100.

There are more then a few aftermarket HU that will control your iPod right from the HU, the newer Alpine HU only need a connection cable to a dedicated iPod control port on the back of the HU.
We included the cable with some of the HUs during sales, and you could definitely have it "thrown in" if you buy the Alpine at your local Alpine dealer. 94

thanks for all the replys guys. Today I went and looked the new alpine iDA-X001 HU that is made just for the ipod and it seems really nice but I'm going to have to save up my money for that.

But in the for now what I would like to do is this, I already have the factory cd player installed this is the unit that goes under the factory HU. I figured what I might be able to do is just cut the wires that are for the left/right channel and splice in a Y cable that has rca's on it into the cable going to the Factory HU that way when I want the ipod I can hit the cd button the HU will see the cd player but it will be getting the right/left channel from the ipod not the cd player. This is why I was requesting the wiring digram for the factory cd player/cd changer cable.

Thanks again for all the replys.

Hmm never thought of that. with my limited knowledge of stereos I would have figured that the ipod would have almost acted like a pre-amp like it does when I hook it up into my home stereo.

Here's the thing guys I'm on a limited budget, I am planning on getting that alpine HU that I listed in a earlier post but I need to save up my $$$ so until then I was hoping I could rig this up for now either way I cant lose I dont play cd's with the cd player that is in the car and the factory unit it going to be out of there in the near future.

So I was thinking I have the Y cable with RCA's already and how long does it take to solder and shrink wrap 4 wires so why not try this and use it for now

The problem is that just connecting the left and right signal and signal return to the HUs changer port signal input will not "tell" the HU that there is anything connected to it so you will not be able to switch to it, [it won't work] that's what we have been trying to tell you, if it was that simple the adapter you need would not look like the one that B18C_EJ8 linked you to and it wouldn't cost $50, it would be $14.95 with the Honda plug at one end and a mini headphone jack at the other.
The black box that comes with the adapter is what "tells" the HU that there is a "changer" plugged into the port, so turn on and route the signal entering the port to the HUs internal amp.

Now if you are not using the HU and you have an amp, [or can borrow one until you get your new HU] disconnect the HU install the amp and plug the Y adapter you have into the amp, adjust amp gain and Ipod volume for best SQ, [sound quality] although it will not be all that good, but that's another story.

The above will get you Ipod over your cars speakers, if you get an iPod docking port to RCA adaptor SQ will improve, a lot. 94

Ok I see what your saying there, But here is the thing I have the factory CD player installed that is separate from the head unit so I wouldnt need that addon box to tell the head unit that there is something connected so If I get the wiring diagram then I might be able to get it to work.

Again here is what I have Factory head unit (this head unit has no cd player in it just FM/AM) And the addon single din/Single cd player below it this is plugged into the FM/AM headunit so that is why I figure I can splice into the left/right channel of the connector and leave the CD player still plugged into the connector that way it will "see" something there

And what, build a switcher to switch the audio signal from CD to iPod or just cut the CD signal altogether? 94

cut the CD signal altogether. Any idea if the harness from the cd player follow the same color codes as the radio harness ?

Unlikely the CD player cable wire colors are the same, the signal wires will be easy to find in the cable, carefully slice the cable open, lengthwise, for a few inches to expose the leads inside, the signal wires will be inside a braided shield, both left and right, the leads will probably be white and red, the braided shield may be signal return, or there may be a braided shield around each of the signal leads and they are the signal return leads, they may even be connected to the same terminal and the center lead is the signal, the signal leads are probably the thinnest leads in the cable, they may look as thick as the others if they have individual braided shields.
If you can find the signal leads you can cut them and connect a set of RCAs to the HU side of cut leads, solder and shrink tube are your friends. 94

PS, sorry no wiring diagram, just way to easy to get adapter.

If anyone else has any info that might help me feel free to let me know, Thanks

Update :

I got this to work and for $7.00 it sounds great. I wish I would have just pulled the radio prior to asking since Honda was nice enough to supply the wiring diagram for both the radio and the CD/Cd changer port on the back of the radio.

All that I needed to do was to cut the Right + , Left + , and the common - wires and spice those into the Y connector with RCA's on it. Solder/Shinkwrap the wires and now I have my ipod hooked up in my car.

Sound quality IMO is about a 7/10 with the factory speakers. Thanks again for the help guys .

On a side note does anyone know where to tap into on a 94 civic harness if your installing a 99 si harness. I hooked the radio up and all but their is one wire left over called "illuminations" and their isn't an additional wire to hook it up on the stock harness. HELP. lol

Your post makes no sense, and I can't believe that you're an '02 and you don't know enough not to make your own thread, rather than tacking on an irrelevent post to a thread...

I don't care for starting new post Mr. 2003 member. If search wasn't down I wouldn't of high jacked his thread, but who cares he already took care of his problem. Are you one of those H-T ****'s?

My questions might of been a little vague so I'll try to explain again. I put a 99 civic radio in my 94 hatch. I bought aftermarket plug from Best Buy that goes into the 99 si radio and I soldiered the other plug that goes into the stock civic harness. The only problem is their is one remaining wire left over called "illumination" that doesn't have a wire going into it.
I'm probably just going to make my own thread, because pictures speak a thousand words.
