most streetfighters come from full faired bikes that were wrecked. well a trend started and people started liking the look, so they began to rip bikes apart and certain bikes are great candidates. motorcycle companies offer naked bikes that resemble streetfighters now, the z1000 is a great example. i like the factory nakeds but nothing beats a fully custom project.

People do it for a few reasons.

1. They're poor and after wrecking their bike they can afford new plastics and a paint job. You pretty much have to buy oem because everything else fits like ****.

2. They want to do something different. I know when I had mine it would turn heads all over the place. People kept asking me if it was a buell "No you ******* its a 636!" haha

3. They stunt and dont want to damage their factory plastics. Mainly that expensive upper.

Many said "streetfighters" are just bikes that have a aftermarket headlight strapped to the front and no or very minimal plastics. A true street fighter has 100's of hours in custom bodywork and would not be comparable to the book of the bike it came from.

Less weight, more comfortable (with tall handlebar), runs cooler (no fairings to trap heat), looks good on a lot of bikes... I wouldnt build a street fighter track bike, but for the street they're great.
