Default Getting a pristine `96 Prelude VTEC this week

and I've got questions.
My 9C1 got totaled by a stupid a couple months ago, and with the $ I've got I foun a very clean, tight riding, high milage car from a fella about two miles from me.

I'll post some pics when I can. The tires are worn evenly, but they won't last the rest of the year. It's got the 15" alloys on it.

I expect good grip dry and wet, not a harsh ride, and value for the $. I won't drive it hard for several reasons, but occasionally I know I'll have to romp on it. I couldn't buy a car like this and not drive it like it was meant to be driven.

How wide can I go? Which brands and makes have worked well for you folks. I don't want to change the height and have to reprogram the pcm for the speedo to be right.

And thanks for the specs that are posted in the archives here. That has helped me make my decision about which car to buy.

Well, if you want good grip and handling a Prelude is a good choice. I don't know that I've seen many people but crazy wide tires on a lude though...maybe 8-9" at the most. Anything is possible though.

That was what I expect out of the tires. Thanks for replying.
Firestones on my 9C1 rode bad, handled ok. The Dunlops were great in both categories. There were only three specific 255/60/15 tires made for that car now-a-days.
The Bridgestone (Firestone) Potenza's on the Prelude right now ride good, but I'm at a loss on tire info for foreign cars.
I'll try posting in the Wheel and Tire forum.

Kuhmo made an Exsta STX in my old car's tire size that was supposed to be real good a couple years ago. The tread looked like it would clean some water out of the way. Money will be kinda tight for the next couple months now that this wad of Bens will be gone. Thanks 93sivtec

I had toyo proxes S4's for several years and they were great...low noise, good grip dry and wet,and they had a decent wear life...they cost me $440 mounted and balanced for 205/50/15's

I even got a free pair of dragon sunglasses with em'

Appreciate it folks, I did do an almost duplicate thread at the tire and wheel thread and nsxtasy tossed me some good info there too.

And I couldn't respond until tonight. Being a rookie anyway, anyhow stinks.

Looks like I've gotta stick with the stock size on this car, but HEY, it handles good right now and the profile is not bad at all.
Picked it up this afternoon..... pristine...NO. Damn clean....yes one spot on the seats is a little worn the outside support on the driver seat of course, but not bad, it had 7 tics of gas in it, the fluids smell ok too.
Clutch catches up high, I won't be speed shifting `till I get used to a stick again been since about`93 since I had one.
He said to use 10w30 mobil one year round. The engine compartment got really hot after about an hour of tooling around town it was about 90 today.
The shield over the exhaust manifold isn't really needed is it?
In the 2:00 sunshine I could see faint swirls that 6pm sun didn't show. It is a 10 year old black car. It's got a halfway clean k&n air filter, that will do for right now... it's drying tonight goes back in at 7 am. Can you make it easier to get the air to the injectors in this car without it being heard standing outside the car?
One of the back speakers is blown, at 12:00 volume w/flat tone it rattled to a Jagger cd. My full range Cerwin-Vegas might have to find their way in there.

Tint tomorrow, maybe the fuel kill too, busy on Sat. , Dawn wash + Zaino Sunday I hope. Might have enough left for two or three coats on this new wave rod. I can leave the claybar in the box too.
Need a garage again bad.
Pics tomorrow.

The clutch engagement can be adjusted( 12mm is the pushrod locknut size)

The heat shield is there for a reason.

I can articulate a lot better in person, speaking. Sorry `bout that SteveoBA8. What I meant to get across was:

I like the way it catches at about 40 to 50% down, I'm just not as fast at changing gears like I was the last time I had a five-speed.

If the reason is to keep owners/operators from burning themselves on the manifold I don't need it. Touch a hot header once and you remember forever to not go near those things again.
If it's there to help enable quick warm ups in the winter or another real purpose, then it has a right to exist under my hood.

I had read somebody somewhere saying after they put in a short tube c.a.i. that it made a sound that they could hear from inside. I googled a lot this past week about the Prelude, not sure where it was. If I could shorten the air path to the intake it should help the motor right? Unless of course the air is hot. There's not much space to work with in there, won't be cutting a hole in the hood either.
I'd like to make this car have a raspier exhaust note, not obnoxious. The motor runs smooth now and I don't want to hear whooshing air.
I've heard several imports in my neighborhood that sound like they would move really quick with and without being unnessecarily loud.

I put nitto Neo Gens on my boosted lude. I have had many different tires since purchasing it... Michellin, Nankangs, Toyo, Cooper...

So far these neo gens are super great, traction was definitely an issue after boosting and these helped out so much. With control + neo gens my traction issue is pretty much non existent.

I don't expect to get high mileage out of these Z rated tires, but aye I bought them for traction not 80k miles

why not just put a regular cold air intake on it. there was just a dyno comparison from 98vtec comparing different intakes he didnt test a cai but they think it will yield more gains. and it dosent make your car louder at idle when you get on it youll be able to hear it sucking

I found one website with the AEM cai for under $200 It'll be a month at least before I can do it. Tires are next and man it is different to actually have choices with this car. Took some pics with my cellphone, right as I was finishing the first coat of ZAINO the rain started. Luckily I was buffing the lowest part of the doors under a shadetree. Anyhow there are spots again now, at least black is the fastest color. First one is in memorium of my old car. The title references the gal that didn't see the shiny two ton car right in front of her.

After I wipe the leather with just water per the manual, what do you guys treat your with? Saddle soap like per the manual or what?

The guy that I got tires from in April has some good-lookin' Falken zeix _ _ on his Accord. Saw the Kuhmos and a Dunlop inside too. They didn't have anything else there.

Thanks for the suggestions!!
