Clutch Flywheel Combination?
Hey guy's I am looking at getting a new clutch and flywheel, what do you guys recommend for street and road racing. Toda? Comptech? Exedy?
Thanks

I've got the toda flywheel and exedy clutch and it works great BUT if I did it again I'd go with the ATS carbon clutch with the toda flywheel (the quality of the toda flywheel is second to none)
I value Steve's opinion and he recommend using the Clutchnet Kush-lok disc.
This is a full face organic unsprung disk which should give a smooth gradual engagement.
After seeing his post of the EXPO, I don't feel comforatble with that recommendation. He stripped the splines off the clutchnet disk. He also mentioned that it happened to him a few other times.
I'm not sure how hard he drives his car but, i've seen some hard drivers use clutches that outlast his.
I'm not bashing ...... I'm just voicing my observation.

whatever clutch steve recommends..... Steve Who?

As for how hard he drives....does a 12sec 1/4 count for hard launches? If I recall, the clutch that he "desplined" last time was a different brand. I could be wrong

Most people are fine with spring discs, I am not. but I seem to be the exception
and not the rule.
My recommendation is the ACT pressure plate and a stock or stock type
replacement disc. This combo will give you the extra holding power you
might need, and give you the stock engagement you want.
I am going to call clutchnet today and see what they will do about this disc.
I'll let you know what they say.
Steve - Oh ok ..... I understand.
I was going to go that route ...... ACT HD pressureplate with stock disk but I went ahead and got the SS modified disc from ACT. I got a deal that I couldn't turn down.
It will all go in this weekend ... I'll give my impressions of it later (i'll just add to the 1 millionth impression list)

Steve = sgT.
That's right!
Itr-Animal, I'd go with a comptech 6.75lb flywheel and what steve posted above. He's been through more clutches and abused them drag racing, street racing, road racing, etc, like crazy... he also won't kid you or tell you mistruths. He'll tell you if a certain clutch sucks or whatever. I've got some nice jdm goodies, but honestly, why spend the $ when you can get something better closer to home (unless you're a label-***** like me)?

is the thrust bearing load from excessive clamping force an issue for longevity?
HD i have used up to 350whp and it still held fine.
I guess it would boil down to what kind of pedal pressure you like.
I have seen no excessive thrust bearing wear in teh 100k+ miles I have
put on my motors and i have been reusing my thrust bearings.

Stock FW and Exedy Cerametallic Racing Clutch
Edit: Oh... it holds like a **** and has just more pressure then a stock pedal. It grabs reall well ...

I've seen plenty of exedys fail. The just dont last long. period.
UPDATE: called clutchnet, looks like they will replace the disc for me.
Still working out the details, but we'll see how everything goes.

I personally like Spoon, Toda or ATS, but I have OSGIKEN on my car and it is too harsh and dont like them...
Doesn't Exedy make the Clutch for Toda? So insint it the same clutch?
