205/50/15 on a 15x6?
why not use the 195/50/15. i used to use the 205 but when you are low they tend to rub. the wider 205 adds almost no performance gain so i say just run the 195.

i think you are wrong, because the second number is an aspect ratio. so a 205/50 is actually a 205 wide tire and the sidewall is 50% of that 205. a 195/50 will have a shorter sidewall because 50% of 195 is less then 50% of 205.

195/ is the width..which is 10 mm less wide then 205.. yes but then 50 series equals the percentage of the tire the sidewall takes up. i was referring to height not width....so assuming the OP has a honda friendly offset(35-45) then 205/50 will not be an issue for him. no need to get the wrong size tire for his year/model of vehicle.
195/55 diameter = 23.4
205/50 diameter = 23.1
195/50 diameter = 22.7
yes...u are only off by a few ticks
but 195/55 or 205/50 is the correct/recommended size for his year vehicle.

Here is how these sizes compare in overall diameter to his stock size (OJ gave the diameters, here are the percentage differences):
185/65-14 (stock)
195/55-15 -0.1 percent
205/50-15 -1.7 percent
195/50-15 -3.4 percent
3.4 percent is a big difference in diameter. This is why 195/50-15 is too small for a '97 Civic hatchback.

No problem, it's all good.
The 195/50-15 is the right 15" size for '95 and earlier Civics. The '97-00 Civics all are better with 195/55-15 or 205/50-15, and later Civics need even bigger sizes.
It gets even more complicated with the '96 Civic; the DX and hatchback models need 195/50-15, and the other models that year need 195/55-15 or 205/50-15.
Pretty confusing, huh?
