Best b18c spec r header and exhaust
Ive posted this as a sub question in another thread but it didnt get answered so... what would you guys say are the best header and exhaust performancewise/$$$. ive been looking at the smsp numbers for the header and they look great. how much does it cost though. i want my car to be quiet and comfortable on the highway, but its alright if its loud at WOT. thanks in advance for the plethora of replies.

well, the smsp header seems very much out of my price range. im 19 and will be dumping quite a large sum on the itr motor in about 3 weeks leaving me with very little to toy with for a while. im looking for nice improvements in power with minimal costs. i simply cant swing nearly that much for a header.

If you're looking for the best deal as far as power/cost is concerned, the DC JDM 4-1 is difficult to beat. The Honda JDM 4-1 is also a cost effective option. Pair either one with a Carsound 2.5" cat. If the engine is otherwise basically stock, simply removing the bottleneck at the B-pipe inlet might be a good idea until you have more money to spend on a full system. HTH.
Save another couple of bucks by getting a Jeg's cat (part number 289-15187). 2.5" in and out, either 14" or 18" long, whatever fits. It's about $50. Make sure and get an O2 sensor bung as well (call, don't order online - bung is not listed on the website). You will have to get a muffler shop to install it. Cost me $30, and they cut the first restriction out of the b-pipe.
Flows enough for a small-block (intended application), and unlike a few Carsounds I've heard about, mine's still intact

will my motor come with the jdm 4-1? the performance of the other ones i looked at arent really much of an improvement, unless im missing something. i lookded at the great header review. also, where i live i really dont need to have a cat. would it be too loud without one? any real hp increases without it. what is a good recommended 2.5" exhaust? again without breaking the bank, or my ears. i want quiet while cruising.

so lets say i get the jeg's cat and attach it to my jdm 4-1, then i get custom 2.5" piping welded on and then weld on a muffler. which muffler would be recommended for nice and quiet driving, especially on the highway, but loud when i get on it. im getting the motor on monday, and it will be going in relatively soon, so i need to figure out what to do, thanks.

For the money the DC JDM header (We did a huge header test and i think it tied for thrid). They seem to be exactly the same as the Honda JDm header. Steeping up past that get either a SMSP or Hy-tech. If you decide to go with TOda cams get a Toda header.

Exhaust wise there isn't too much to choose from. I like the Apex'i N1 but it hangs to low (Had to cut mine to make it fit properly). I like the new Tanabe racing spec but it's kinda pricey to me. The HKS hiper looks good but it goes under the axle (Don't like that design). The 5Zigen WILL BREAK OFF WERE THE HANGERS MEET THE ACTUAL EXHAUST ( I know this because everyone I sold a fireball to has had them broken off @ the same place, even people who didn't buy it thru me).
Like I said not too many options. I'll probably go with a Buddy Club spec I (Looks stock, I'm just waiting for a friend of mine to get his wifes on her car so I can hear what it soulds like. Thing I like about that one end of the exhaust itself looks maybe 2.5 inchs wide (Very stock/stealth looking).
JIC magic seems to make a good exhaust too right now. the Border 304 (I think or 504, I can't remember) or if you have bank the Ti JIC magic.
Good luck.

ITR JDM - If ground clearance is a concern
DC JDM Stainless - If ground clearance isn't a concern, the DC JDM is almost a clone of the Mugen JDM, except I think the collector is built better in the DC.
I was a bit disappointed about the looks of the DC JDM after it's installed and used for some time. Doesn't look high quality anymore compared to when it's in the box.
Rust on the flange and the looks of the primaries. It turned into flat blue/brown. And we did remove the grease after install.
so when you say itr jdm and dc jdm are you talking about the full catback or just the muffler. it will be going on a 92 vx and bolting up to the jdm 4-1 that comes with the motor. how loud are they, how much are they, and how hard to put on if i have to get it custom installed at a muffler shop? thanks.
geez, sorry. so what do you recommend then for the exhaust, complying with my requirements that is, since i will have the jdm 4-1 and it will do for quite a while.
