Calling all CA smog peeps...
My gf's car is under her dads name and she's in the process of changing the car's title to her name. Now does she need to smog the car? After reading that it sounds like she has smog her car. She had her smog test last year, so the 90 day transfer date doesn't apply to her. Right?
this is what found from the DMV website...
"Provide the purchaser with evidence of a valid smog certification, if applicable.
Smog certificates are good for 90 days from the date of inspection. The smog certification is not required if the owner or buyer signs a statement that smog certification was submitted with renewal fees within 90 days prior to the transfer date (a vehicle inspection report may be required for proof of certification)"
sorry if this is the wrong place to post, but this is the socal classifieds so i'd figured i'd get a legit answer.

A regular transfer requires smog certification in most cases before the vehicle can be registered in the new owner's name. A family member transfer does not require smog certification (See Smog Certification section) if the vehicle is currently registered and the biennial smog inspection is not due.
