i'm in the middle of a high compression rebuild on a d16y8. i have a chipped p28 with a basemap made by the guy who sold me the ecu. i'm not so sure if i trust his basemap, but i'm not familiar enough with ecu tuning to really tell how well it will work. my main concern is that he checked all the boxes in the options section, disabling all the sensors! most basemaps i've seen only have the "Disable knock sensor" box checked. is there a reason he set it up like this? is there anything else i, or anyone should look out for before running an ecu basemapped by someone other than a tuner we know we can trust?

 

another question.... would it be ok to run the car with the stock ecu until i get it to a tuner (maybe 300 miles). the setup will be a full high cr (~10.8:1) build on the head (crower stg II cam) and block, 260cc/min injectors, nearly stock fuel pressure, all the bolt-ons, including a 70mm tb.

 

any advice here? i think a lot of people would be interested.

Normally when you get a bin from someone and it has all the boxes checked its because that bin was made and tuned for a specific car and conditions. NO i would not use that on your car. It does not have the ability to make corrections. its stuck in open loop.
with that compression use a stock obd2 ecu so it can retard timing till you get to a tuner. also use the highest octane, till you see a tuner.

 

thanks for the reply. i'll only run it on 91 octane, highest i can get in cali. unless someone can tell me where i can get a basemap that will work, i guess i'll just drive conservatively on the stock obd2 till i get it tuned.
