FD2 - i-VTEC guage?

What's the point of this... The only thing I can see is its basically a fancy shift indicator. We got a light, so they had to one-up it with a i-VTEC meter?

Just a cool little feature. I'd rather see a little vtec bar charge up when I needed to shift, rather than just some little light flashing at me.
