check engine light and ecu light staying on??

check engine light and ecu light staying on??
hey just got a chipped ecu and as soon as i start it up the check engine light gose on then i check the ecu light and it also stays on, no blinks...but i put my stock ecu back on it runs fine...any one know what it means?? thanks!!
