Default Dynoed Today But Low Numbers!

Hey guys, I just recently had my whole motor rebuilt by Mr. Don.F due to blown piston rings. I dynoed at 175whp and 115lb torque with the blown piston rings. Now with everything brand new, I only dynoed at 183whp and 120lb of torque. The engine definitly feels stronger and more smooth than before. I don't know if 8whp and 5 lb torque over previous would make you feel that much of a difference. Question is, what could cause me to only gain soo little power? Gonna do a compression test soon to see if anything is wrong..Would like any suggestions on what else I should be looking for or testing. ? Thanks for the help in advance!

Set Up:
.025 overbore usdm piston
Buddyclub Spec 3+ Cams
Blox valve springs and buddyclub titanium retainers (Buddyclub sent me the wrong valve springs )
Hytech Header
Apexi WS2 Exhuast
Stock Intake with K n N filter
290cc Injectors
Mild Port n Polish
3 angle valve job
12lb exedy flywheel
stage 1 exedy clutch
Head and Block milled .010
Oem Head Gasket
P28 on Chrome

PS: It was not 76 degree.. It was more like 90 degree. The computer was just in a AC room.

just curious as to what cam gear settings you ended up with. did donf degree the cams for you?

its 2 degree advance on the intake and 0 degree on exhuast side. No Don.f left both the cams at zero.

that seems about right.

its not that it gained so little from before. its that its so much more reliable compared to before.

Why'd you use stock pistons for the rebuild?

That seems way too low. I pulled 188whp with a comptech intake and icebox, JDM DC header, T1R test pipe, T1R catback, and a mild tune on a VAFC

I didn't want a high compression motor. It's suppose to be about 11:3 with the setup I have. It's a daily driver. I was aiming to get around 195+whp. High hopes of 200whp.

totally. once he swaps on the jasma intake it should totally free up at least like a 25 shot of vtec.

nice job comparing your numbers from a dyno on one side of the country with nice cool weather to numbers from a dyno on the other side of the country with hot humid weather

The unconnected areas were just spikes in the reading. The data logger lost track of itself for a split second.

Is it the same dyno? All dyno's are different. And remember, even if it is the same one things such as humidity and air temperatures play a crucial role.

And peak power is not everything, try overlaying your before and after graphs to see your power band.

You are naive.

You can get a lot more out of those cams with the appropriate compression. I've seen three different posts in the last couple of weeks about peoples low dyno numbers with good sized cams and OEM pistons, you people need to do a little more research when doing things like this, and it's obvious when you're wondering why your number are low...

Sounds about right with the modifications listed.

And I'm pretty sure he can achieve 210whp with a proper build on the block+better air flow to favor those cams a little more and a re-tune, probably a little on the aggressive side.

i would try advancing the intake cams more, on the dyno of course. my bc3's responded well to this. they also made peak power around 8k prm, they are more of a midrange oriented cam
