How normal is this popping and white smoke?
hmm.. off topic but my moms dodge durango throws out white smoke and always seems to over heat cuz coolent gets low but there is no leak? wat exactly causes this? and wat do i need to do to resolve it? im sure it wuld be same problem on the dodge as a honda right?
That's weird I never add coolant to this vehicle. It also never overheats. I drive to work oneway 45 miles. It's my daily driver. Coolant level is the same.
the white smoke could be a million things. but the popping is probably cuz your sitting there and reving the engine. being in and out of the throttle. you ever notice it if your getting on it when you shift gears the same noise.
Do you recall smelling any hint of sweetness in the smoke. If so then you are burning coolant(headgasket).
If the coolant level is good and you don't smell any sweetness in the exhaust then might be the rings as yoffer said.

Well I know for sure it's not coolant. Last year I got the car from Oklahoma. In 1996 of June the compression was at 180 and just 1 piston at 190. Only once in awhile the smoke appears ONLY when in vtec mode. Thanks
The smoke from the video does look a little blue. Blue smoke is caused by engine oil entering the cylinder area and being burned along with the fuel air mixture. As with the white smoke, just a small drop of oil leaking into the cylinder can produce blue smoke out the tailpipe. Blue smoke is more likely in older or higher mileage vehicles than newer cars with fewer miles.
The engine oil may have gotten inside the cylinder from the seals, gaskets, o-rings. If too much oil leaks into the cylinder and fouls the spark plug, it will cause a misfire (engine miss) in that cylinder, and the spark plug will have to be replaced or cleaned of the oil. Using thicker weight engine oil with older or higher mileage cars sometimes help reduce the amount of oil leaking into the cylinder.
The popping is from unburnt fuel exploding into the exhaust system. Check your ignition system; sparkplugs, wires, etc.
It doesn't necessarily mean the car needs a rebuild or anything, it might even still keeping running for a long time as is...

Wow! Very good info. I will have to definitely chage my spark plugs. It has been a year. Thanks alot. The del sol does have high miles. I think it's at 174,000.
Thanks

Is the white smoke related to burning oil? My vehicle is a 95 del sol dohc vtec.
