Default Stripped tranny bolt

I'm pretty careful about not cross threading my bolts. Today, I was using some airtools
when I cross threaded one of my tranny bolts holding the tranny to the engine. At the top of the transmission, there are four of those big 12mm tranny bolts. I stripped the one right above the slave cylinder (Civic VX). It's unusable. I am going to run the car without this bolt. I assume there are enough bolts that a missing bolt would be ok. What do you guys think?

all of the bolts are there for a reason, BUT youd be able to get away with it assuming you have everything else.

Yeah that's what I think. I rather have that one bolt there, but it's not gonna happen.
When I get a chance I will retap that hole, but I think I destroyed all the treads so it'll never be the same again...
The car has 220k miles. It's old and I'll probably keep it a few more years .. It's my commuter (I don't race it) so I won't stress it much.

Be easy with the air tools. I just replaced a transmission casing due to the rear motor mount holes on the tranny stripping out. The tranny did see four motors, but damn. What a bitch.

Ah, I reread your post. I think you've misunderstanding the issue at hand. The bolt head is NOT stripped. If you read the original post carefully, I mentioned the threads have been crossthreaded. The bolt is out. There is nothing to remove. I can run the car as is. I'm just wondering what the side affects are of running the car w/ that one bolt. Probably none.. but am trying to get some opinions.

Just JB weld a stud in there. Thread a 1/2-20 stud in there and just use a nut to hold the trans on

I'd use a helicoil + jb weld and put a stud in there. That way you don't have to ever remove it again

Why are you using a air ratchet for tightening down tranny bolts? They make torque wrenches and torque specs for a reason u know.

I'm surprised no one suggested zip ties.

uh who cares if ur threads r stripped.
put jbweld in the hole. thread ur bolt in. let it harden a littlebit.

put locktite on the bolt (blue)

this will cause it to not wobble.wiggle. or vibrate loose. also it will created an adhesive and make the bolt bond to the tranny/engine.

thread the bolt back in. the jb weld formed the new threads/holding while the locktie ensure its stay.

also when its time to come off again anyway it will.

You need to lighten up. You probably don't wrench enough to make mistakes.

rofl its one of these HT Fail/Glitch topics. Where it takes a topic from years ago and puts it in the recent topics on the front page. Well its obvious that its fine as the OP has been driving the car for 2 years without the bolt. Especially on a VX where there is no power there would be no problem missing 1 bolt.

Sorry, but i "Wrench" for 8 hours a day 5 days a week, when i wrench when im home on a project civic, some days i "wrench" from 7 am - 11pm between work and play i believe i have more hours in then you will in many years to come my friend.

But until then keep using wrong tools for wrong jobs, strip some more bolts out. Maybe eventually you will have problems and realize your a border-line retard.
