battery light on dash stays on what could cause this?

i don't know what made it turn on but this happened the other day going on break from work the car has been turning on since until today that the power went real low any help on what i can do to fix it

the alternator is fairly new just put in 3-4 months ago

Doesn't matter, get it check and your battery. I had one that was 3 days old and it was bad.

alternator is bad or the battery is bad. this light comes on when the car sees 12v or less instead of the 14.4v your alternator is supposed to put out. having a shot battery that drains too much electricity instead of providing it may also cause this. have both tested
