Default How-to quiet down my exhaust??

Yes, I know there are 40 of these threads a day. I apologize.

I have a GSR with dc header, 2.5" exhaust with a high-flow cat and an apexi n1 muffler. HOLY **** is it loud. And not just loud, ricer-loud. What kind of muffler will quiet this thing down? I was thinking an es tuning muffler but the sound clips I've heard have been pretty loud. Are they that loud? I really just want this thing to be quiet, I feel like a moron driving down the road with my exhaust right now.

Thanks in advance

my greddy ev2 sounds good... I would put back in the stock cat, put in a resonator, and get a greddy muffler...

Why don't you get rid of the high-flow cat? Or do you just want a different muffler?

I really just want a quiet muffler. I don't really want to get rid of the cat. I'll add a resonator if I have to.

I bought the rear section of rs-r's ex-mag cat back system. I haven't put it on yet, but i've heard a dc2 with the intire cat back system it sounded super quite. Quitest aftermarket muffler i've ever heard. That's why i bought it. The silencer exploded out of my trust muffler and, just like you, felt like a jackass driving the slowest yet loudest car in town.

I would go resonator first... it will be the cheapest out of the 3. My ES with resonator sounds just fine.

I haven't read much of the replies to this thread, but I would suggest getting a CHEAPO twin-loop off ebay, and get an axle-back fab-welded to it, and get the N1 fabbed with an exhaust flange so all you have to do is bolt it back on when you go turbo.

If you play your cards right, all it will really cost you is like $30 for the cheapo muffler, and $50-75 for the muffler service, making it around $80-100 roughly. I did the exact same thing with my Apexi N1: Too loud. It'll probably go back on when I go turbo.

x2

i love how mine sounds too. although, the evo2 exhaust i have is a full exhaust, so there's also a resonator.

like everyone's been saying, get a good resonator, and if you can swing it, get an es oval. those are quiet when just driving, but they're loud when you wot.

so then don't waste your money on an exhaust now.
get a kteller 3 in when you get an exhaust, and get a complete system so u have the resonator, b pipe, axel back, etc. it's a great exhaust setup for turbo

hope this helps.

How do i go about putting a resonator in? Are there specific brands that i should look into and order, or should i just take it to a muffler shop and ask them to add a resonator?

another thing to add... there are different sizes of resonators. just tell your local muffler shop what you want it sound like and what size resonator you will need to accomplish it.

btw i paid about 100 for the resonator and labor

made it sound a hell of a lot better

it will get a hell of alot quieter when you boost it. Turbos act as a resonator.
