Depends on year, prior to 92 they are OBD0, 92-95 are OBD1.

Yes you can tune it stock and squeeze more out with a GOOD tuner, but really need some mods to see real, beneficial gains.

Thanks....im pretty sure now that its an obd1. Basically im goin back and forth with the whole mod deal. I have the usual exhaust and intake but unsure about what to do next. The car is my daily but definetly want more power out of it! I know that people say i should go boost but jus dont have to money for it.

Get a good header, IMO, best bang for the buck can be found here. (i just ordered one)

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2027262

Hopefully it will produce some HP numbers for me, and last more than 6 mos!

After that, if you wanna spend some money.. I would do a cams/valvetrain set up. A lot of people seem to like the Skunk 2 Stage 2 camshafts, however if you get these you must get some upgraded valvetrain like Supertech Valve springs and retainers... or what ever brand you prefer.

For a more budget minded set up, with some decent gains, put in CTR or ITR intake cam (both are the same) with a good intake manifold like the AEBS unit, and it moves all the vacuum ports to the back for a much more aesthetically pleasing view. With this cam, you can still retain (no pun intended) the stock valvetrain and be fine, just don't push it past 8,200 very often if you get a chipped ECU.

on the ctr or itr intake cam i could jus throw that in there with basically a good intake manifold and be straight? What about exhaust or is that fine with the stock and the ctr or itr cam? yea i knew on the skunk stage 2 or 3 that you would have to upgrade the valvetrain and everything. What size injectors do you recomend with both setups? Also will ecu be good with runing either setup?

Thanks

ECU will be fine if you're running the CTR intake cam. But yeah you should notice around 10whp with a CTR intake cam and intake manifold and some louder VTEC, lol. You won't have to worry about injectors at all.

I would also recommend to get a chipped ECU from a place such as phearable.net. You tell him your exact mods and he can chip a ECU with a basemap specifically for your car. Most people have noticed gains with his ECUs. And for like $170, it may be a good investment.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe there's no difference in the exhaust cams from a B16 to a B18CR or B16B, but I will check and get back with you.

Hey man thanks for your help!!!If i were goin to do anything with cams i probably will do the valvetrain with it just because...so i might do the skunk 2 setup. Basically get do the whole springs, retainers, valves, cams, camgears possibly....anything im missing???I obviously will do more research on everything before i do it but figured i might ask!

Ok I THINK the exhaust cams are different from a B16 so I would go ahead and do the exhaust cam as well. Most people just do the intake cam because that's where you will notice the most HP gain, but every little bit helps. My friend has a B16A with a CTR intake cam and AEBS mani and put down around 155whp. Pulls pretty decent, VTEC hits good, and is a reliable setup. Hope this helps, I'll be happy to help you with anymore questions that I can.

Yeah well if you've got the money, then by all means go all out. Skunk2 Stage 2, Retainers, Springs, Valves, Cam gears, Intake mani, header. With that setup, you'll definatley want a chipped ECU and some dyno time with a GOOD tuner.

A 13 second quarter mile pass should be easy to achieve as well.

This is prolly a dumb question but how do you know if your getting to much valve lift or to little...i know that its not as simple as jus throwing the parts in there and starting the car?Pretty much when you do that you have to do the obvious stuff like adjust cam gears and timing right?Or am i wrong and bascially throw the parts at it can start??But yea definetly a tune if i went with that setup! Also will pherable still be good to go with that setup for an ecu?

Thanks

You can put the intake cam in with no problem but If your using type r on the exhaust you need to switch your intake valvesprings to the exhaust side and get new ones for your intake side. B16 has dual springs on intake but not exhaust.

Just leave the cam gears alone and set the timing at 16 btdc. WHen you go for a tune they will adjust the cam gears for added power.
