Weird steering problem and sound
When i turn right i can hear something that sounds like a crunching or grinding sound like 2 metal piece rubbing against each other. it only happens when i turn tot he right. What can it be? I also noticed my car seems to have a little side to side play when driving. its especially noticeable when on the highway. it was veyr difficult to keep it in a straight line, it wasnt jerking ont he road though just swaying a little bit to the sides. When i had my 94 maxima a couple years ago i had bad steering shifting problems where it would jerk me off tot he left every now and then and took it to a mechanic and said it was a lower control arm. could this be the problem? maybe bushings going bad? i was searching a bit and came up with this "Could be the steering rack, could be the rack's inner tie rods, could be the outer tie rods. You need to jack it up and see if there's any play in the steering knuckles and try to pinpoint where the play is coming from." it came from someone who said it was wayt o easy to steer side to side and kindof sounds like my problem.
ya i got the same prob on my '96 gsr. i noticed it started happening after i put tein ss coilovers on it, and drove about 10k. my car is also unstable but that is due to rims that are wider than factory. i think the prob is due to the dust shield on the front left brake, but as to why it happens im not sure
it just feels like its either a hell of a lot more sensitive or it is just wandering just a little bit. doing 70mph on the highway yesterday i had to keep re adjusting frequently, more than usual. it would sway a little turnnig to the left a little then a little to the right.
maybe, i had an alignment done back in september/october on all 4. the grinding noise is gone for what ever reason. maybe it could ahve been the 1.5hr drive i took before when it did soundlike grinding? when i make my local drive around it dont hear it anymore.
