I am going to either pay to have a paint job soon or i am going to attempt it myself. I would like to do it to save the money. I am going to be purchasing an air compressor soon to do the job. What do i need to do to start to prep the car? What grit sandpaper, body filler etc...Also do u have any reccomendations on what air comrpessor to get. I am looking in the $300 range.

sandpaper-get at least 3 different kinds going to the highest number you can get like 1200 or so

 

what do i start with. and at what point do i use body filler...also what grit should i get up to before primer and what grit after primer before the paint. I know this job will take patients and time but is it worth giving it a shot.....or is it too easy to **** up./

 

not to discourage you or anything, but its really easy to **** up. this is basic b/c i dont know the details:
sand
bodyfiller
sand
primer
wetsand
primer
paint
wetsand
clear coat
rubbing compound
polishing compound
wax
again, i dont know the details, this is just to give you a general idea of the steps. also not the you'll need 2-3 coats of paint and clear coat.
