What do you use to remove your oil filter?
Anyone recommend a good tool? The last time I ended ups tabbing it with a screwdriver since it wouldn't come off. Let me just say that that made a huge mess.

i use a pair of rubber gripped gloves. if that doesn't work, there are clamps, and sockets made to go over the filter, in use of a socket wrench as well.

I use this thing to loosen jars and it works when I do an oil change. After you get it off I suggest you use a K&N oil filter. It's called K&N Wrench-off.

An oil filter should only be that tight ONE time. If you are doing your own oil changes, make sure your lubing the gasket good, and screwing it on with your hands, snug. It doesn't have to be that tight. At work all we use for honda's are band wrenches and filter pliers for the k series.

Use an oil filter wrench...works 10 out of 10 times...
Not that multi-size bullshit strap wrench either - use a real filter wrench:

Works every time, like <10 bux from autozone.

i agree with you 100%, i guess some people don't have the strength needed to get it off.

If you have rubber gloves that's possible, usually it's not a matter of strength, it's a matter of room. I noticed on the '04 LX's that it's a pain in the *** and REALLY hard to get 2 hands up there none-the-less get both hands around the oil filter so you can turn it w/ sufficient torque. I used rubber gloves.

Yeah, but sometimes it's tighter than that, my basic rule - if I can't break it loose w/ my hands, don't even bother un-doing the drain plug - wait until I can get a wrench or something to definitely do it.
Mercdes benz makes REALLY GOOD filter wrenches, they're like the ones I posted above, but they have screws in 2 of the sides, so you can just tighten them down according to the new filter, and pop it on, and it basically sizes down to a variety of sizes.
Benz FTW!!!

Manufacturers, garages, take your pick, it's usually not the initial tighten, it's usually how tight it is 5000 miles later.
