Default Tranny pro's enter...gsr wont DOWNSHIFT into 2nd?

so i have a hydro gsr tranny. the tranny works great, no grinds, no scratches. that being said, i can go from 1-2, 2-3, 3-4, 4-5 just fine, reverse works great too.....only problem is when i downshift from any gear, into 2nd....it wont go, its just locked out. no grinds not sounds, just locked out, wont go. from then on i cant get 2nd at all without going into 1st, first. once i go into first it will go into 2nd no problem....

i have the case off right now and i can take pics or anything else i need to do to find the culprit.

please help! this is the last thing i need to do to get my integra back on the road...thanks!!

Get going in 3rd. watch your rpms. Pop it out of gear. Rev an additional 1000prms and see if it lets it back into 2nd.
It sounds like you have a badly worn 2nd gear synchro, and you're just hitting the correct rpm when you shift from 1st.
Gotta be that or a fucked shift fork.

well i talked to a local guy that knows a lot more about trannys than i do, and i think its coming down to the reverse gear. inside the reverse gear, those teeth are worn to ****...so when it slides up into second gear, its getting hung up on the synchro...

he seems to think its a speed sensitive thing as well...thats why when i go back to first, it slows the countershaft enough to let it go into second...idk, im going to go pull all the gears off the shaft and inspect them closely....wish me luck lol

so i pulled the gears off the counter shaft and the inside of the reverse gear is toast, the syncro ring is toast, and the syncro rin on 2nd gear is done too...im pretty sure those are the problems lol anyways i got all new reverse, and 2nd gear, and new syncro ring...

i was going to say that it was a synchro problem, in that the synchro wasn't stopping the ability to stop 2nd gear from spinning when downshifting.

But it looks like you've already figured that part out

it's that shift rod thinger. put the trans in neutral. its getting caught on that rod with the 3 10mm headed bolts. you have to make sure it's not tilting towards the gear stacks and it has to be straight up.

also stick something under the clutch housing to make sure the mainshaft isn't hitting the countertop or w/e

also make sure the shift rod thingy is fully seated.......

AND reverse shaft alignment pin is correct.......

AND the 5th gear/reverse alignment tab is pointing towards the top of the case.

well im an idiot, cause i guess the rod wasnt seated all the way down....tightend the case down....SNAP...i was like wtf was that? thought i snapped a bolt off...nope turns out i put the rod through the case....FUUK.

so now what are your guys' thoughts on welding the case? or should i just get a new one?? my only concern with welding the case is...will the rod ever go back into the hole correctly? it didnt break the "cover" off the case completely, it just cracked it open.......dang.

buy another outer case, good luck finding one cheap.

The cast is too thin there to be welded, you'll burn thru. JB weld won't work either.

I was given a LS tranny like this, it was from Blundar of PGMFI.org

Your shift lever looks like it's aligned fine. When you're putting the case back on... make sure that the little ring on the bottom of the top of the bearing is pointed toward the right spot for the top of the case, make sure that all the shift rods are seated right, then the shifter lever is the last one that's hard to get down right... put the tranny in neutral, put a screw driver in it and turn it while pressing the top case down and it'll go back on. I usually don't even spread the C-clip to get it back over the bearing... I just put the bolts back on and tighen them until it pops on itself. Don't forget the 12mm bolts that have a bearing and spring on them, the 14mm bolt that holds reverse in, or the dust cap. Good luck... I had to do everything the hard way(by myself and figure everything out). There really isn't any good B-series tranny write-ups just d-series ones.

ok well i got the case back today and he did an exelent job in my opinion...he got the cap that was broke, as centered as it could be, from looking on the inside i could never tell that it was welded. and on top he added a bunch of supporting welds so that it wouldnt crack again. im happy with it, hope it works...ill find out tomorow night....

my camera wouldnt focus on the alum. so sorry for the crappy pics

ok so its been a couple days..i had to take a break from this damn tranny...

i got it all back together, everything was going well. got the case all bolted down with all the 12mm's around the outside. before i put the rest of the bolts in it, i decided to try the shift lever to see if it shifted......and it doesnt even move.

its stuck in gear for some odd reason, i pulled the case off and it shifts fine...didnt touch a thing....its only when i put the case on that it doesnt shift....wtf did i do????/ i really need some help on this one now..this thing is really pissing me off
