Need an Alarm...
After hearing about how often Integras get stolen (2 kids with integras at my school got theirs stolen) I've decided I need to get an alarm. I started lookin at them but I realized I have no idea what Im looking for! Does anyone have any suggestions on which alarm to buy? And where is a good place to get an install in so cali? Thanks...
http://www.compustar.org they have a dealer locator on the website. And I have it in my R for 19 months...
look into Clifford, Alpine Viper/DEI
installation is key.. a good alarm w/ a bad install can be easily defeated... some features to look for are hood, trunk, door pin switch, battery back up, pager, multi siren (internal/in cabin, and external), starter kill (multi point is good), coded valet.. not just the hidden kind..you can also add some kill switches that work independant of the alarm, make sure your installer discusses things like sensor placement, operation, features, options, future options/upgradeability, etc w/ you.. theres different types of sensors you can get.. shock/impact (to detect shock/impact), proximity (to detect someone gettin up to the window or inside the cabin), tilt (to sense tilting of the vehicle to either steal the wheels or tow it)...
you need to give us a price range.. some good alarms are Cliffords upper (higher number) Concept and Intelliguard series.. the Avant Guard system by Clifford is also good.. for Alpine the 8054, 8063 is good, also 8080 and 8081..for DEI/Viper the ESP 600 and 800 ESP are good systems.. but like I said.. make sure the install is good w/ the brain hidden well, stealth/hidden wiring, and all the features above... the install is more important than the alarm model..
as for install what area do you live in?

I was looking to spend around $300 and I live in Southern California around the San Fernando Valley area. Ive heard of a couple places to get installs, but I'm not sure how great they are...
1. Get any alarm that you want. I say go to Circuit City or something where you can get a basic one with in the $300 range installed.
2. Then get this:
http://www.autolock.com/
Alarm (of any brand or features) alone may not be enough today.
Call my crazy, but I got both above and a Club.

integra-modder: yeah I use those everytime I leave my car parked... I'd rather spend a few seconds disarming/deactivating/unlocking security devices.. than come back to my car not being there.. or wait a few hours for 1) the police to arrive to take a police/theft report 2) a ride from a friend 3) be mad the rest of the day because my car got stolen... so yeah those few extra seconds it takes me are worth it... slip on club.. like 1 second... activate kill switch .. 0 its automatic... put on autoloc.. like another second or 2.... close door and arm alarm/lock doors.. like pressing channel 1 arm/disarm for like 1 second until alarm chirps and lets me know its activated and armed and locked all my doors... so yeah.. my car is worth those 5 or so extra seconds... disarming/unlocking takes a tad bit longer.. but that is only because I have to find the keys..
d8168055: yeah there is.. theres also things like a hood lock, hood pin switch, battery back up.. so that they cant get under your hood in the first place and can't see the wiring or cut the siren or alarm power wires.. or take out the batter.. and if they do lift it a little.. they set off the hood pin switch which sets off the alarms sirens AND air horns...

do you know if there is such a thing as an actual lock of some type that you can lock your hood with? (like with a key or one of those vending machine keys or something?
yes there is, it's called a hood lock
the mechanical ones are usually the best and they allow you to lock your hood from the inside of the car so it cannot be opened without the key.

yeah thats what a hood lock is.. its like a chain/lock that enables you to lock your hood .. in addition to the stock lock mechanism.. from the inside.. and you'd need a key to open/lock the other lock in addition to pulling the latch inside.. theres also electronically activated ones which lock when you "arm" your alarm
here is a idea.... http://www.jdmfan.com/technical/audi...release_cable/ this makes it so when the theif is in the car he cant pop ur hood by pulling on the stock latch...instead u have a hidden latch somewhere that pops the hood
