Default strut question?

my brother bought tokico blues and tein springs we installed it but the top part popped through is the strut too tall. Any suggestions? do you think we got the wrong part? Oh the car is an 89 civic hatch dx. The tokico looked tall when we put the old beside the new one.

what do you mean by "poped through" or get some pics, that would help. And for the new strut being taller than the old. if you would have got a stiffer strut it would be taller for more compression/stiffness and the old one might just be shot and wont extend the whole way.
