Cracked Air Filter housing (2003 Accord Coupe)
Hey,
I bought an '03 accord couple about a month or so ago....and I am starting to do my regular maintenance on the car. Today I went to replace the air filter, and things ended in trouble. First off the air filter housing is a little difficult to remove on this car....I had to remove the air intake hose to get it off. When I got the lid off I noticed that the right lip was cracked...it looked like someone tried to change the filter once without removing the air intake hose.
Anyways...I get the new K&N filter in...am buttoning things back up....and on tightening the last screw holding the lid on I hear a 'crack'....and what do you know...the damn screw cracked the housing where the screw goes in....not the whole case...just where the screw goes in.
I think the filter is fine for now....3 screws are tight....and the one that broke from the plastic still has the metal receiving piece on the bottm keeping it kinda tight. But eventually I will need to replace the air filter housing.
I found a place that sells it for about $50....but my question is this....how hard is it to remove the entire air filter box? I only see a couple 10mm bolts....but I am not how difficult it would be to get the hose off the bottom of the case which leads to the actual air intake.
If anyone can give me an idea how much of an ordeal getting a new filter box in would be please let me know. At any rate it was a depressing day....excited to save money and do the maintenance myself has led to a $50 part all cause a damn screw.
Thanks,
Greg

on my 94 Accord, I think it just pushes in. There is no real 'air tightness' below the airbox. Everything is just pushed in. I think once you unbolt it, you should be able to just lift up that part and leave the lower resonator still intact.
Hi Greg,
Where did you find the air filter housing for sale? Was it a local shop, online, or where? There is a large crack (well, pretty much a whole chunk of plastic missing) on the air filter housing on my '94 Accord and I'm in need of a replacement myself.
Also, for anyone car savvy, would that hole in the housing contribute much to the car rumbling when the A/C is on? I can run the fan fine, but as soon as I hit the A/C button the whole car starts shaking, and even stalls when I slow down or accelerate from a stop. A/C off and it's fine.
Thanks,
Chris
